Our formal fighting presence is over as of 2011, despite the braying of the addled Liberal party of Canada. I’m glad that Harper runs his government like an uncaring majority, at least on this one issue. The radicalization of dissent in Canada has taken yet another turn as police have arrested a fourth suspect in the Ottawa bomb plot.
“But a police source told CBC News the individual arrested, who was identified as a man, is not likely to be charged. The source told CBC News there does not appear to be enough evidence for a charge and police are unlikely to hold the individual under anti-terrorism legislation.”
“Authorities have arrested and charged three Ontario men in what the RCMP is calling a conspiracy to commit “a violent terrorism attack.” Earlier Friday, Khurram Sher, 28, of London, Ont., was remanded in custody until Sept. 1 after a brief court appearance. He was charged Thursday with conspiracy to knowingly facilitate a terrorist activity. Two Ottawa men, Misbahuddin Ahmed, 26, and Hiva Alizadeh, 30, were arrested on Wednesday. They appeared in an Ottawa courtroom on Thursday facing the same charge.”
Like the 9/11 bombers, these people are mostly all upper middle class well educated citizens. Educated does not necessarily mean smart though.
“During their investigation, Therriault said, police seized more than 50 electronic circuit boards they say were designed specifically to remotely detonate improvised explosive devices, or IEDs.
CBC News has learned that the RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team knew about the circuit boards some time ago — for perhaps months or at least many weeks.
The team obtained a warrant to enter Alizadeh’s apartment and surreptitiously removed the boards, replacing them with look-alikes that were duds. Therefore any attack would likely have failed.
Therriault said they also seized a vast quantity of terrorist literature, videos and manuals.”
Full marks for the RCMP and CSIS for actually getting a job done right for once. I’m pretty sure this was because there was no tasering involved with the situation.

The Arbourist,
The terrorists have already won in Canada. What is the object of terrorism ? It is to intimidate. You are intimidated. ” The damage we wrought in Afghanistan is coming back to bite us. ”
Hitler would have been proud of these terrorists. They actually have Canadian liberals blaming Canada for terror plots against Canada. Exactly like blaming rape victims for being raped.

Please do not tell our PM that, he might actually believe you. :)
My stance has been not to get involved in Afghanistan pretty much from day one. Afghanistan is a country where empires go to die; getting entangled there is not recommended.

Are you aware of Godwin’s Law?

I’m not sure if looking for reasons why people would act in the way they do is “blaming” as you say. I would suggest that looking for motives of criminals is a good practice as people rarely just kill for the heck of it.
The analogy of blaming the victim in this case does not seem to fit, Mr.Scott. Blaming the victim absolves the perpetrator of any responsibility of his/her actions. For instance, saying because she dressed provacatively, she got what she deserved is clearly a case of blaming the victim. In the case of Canada and Afghanistan Canada has been occupying a sovereign country for almost 10 years now, with some of the good things we have been doing there, we have also been guilty of killing innocents and increasing the level of violence in that State. There is a clear relation between our actions and the actions taken by our ‘homegrown’ suspected terrorists. They want to strike back at Canada for what they perceive to be the injustices done to them, their country or their religion (they have not yet spoken, so I am guessing at their intentions).
So, evoking the victim blaming analogy is not really appropriate in this case.

The Arbourist,
” Are you aware of Godwin’s Law? ” No I was not. After following your link, I am now. The useful things I learn here are amazing. I will not allow that to in any way restrict my use of Nazi comparisons. I find the world repeating the mistakes it made by not standing up to fascism early. I see many similarities between Islamic terrorists, Nazis, and Marxists. They all hate my country.
I wonder if there is a law governing how long an internet discussion lasts before Progressives make fun of Christianity or before I call Progressive Economic theory a failure.
I still find it very amusing in the contradiction between your tolerance for all things Muslim and your intolerance towards Christianity and Judaism. You will miss us when we are gone. When you have to fight Sharia law in Canada with out us.
