Informative video. Never really thought about the “belief in gods (pl)” before in that context.

The Arbourist,
This is again a big chip on the shoulder argument. Atheists for the most part ‘are not’ persecuted. They are not singled out. You are attacking religious leaders for practicing their beliefs and then whining that they would dare strike back at you.

Isn’t it amazing, TA, how so many religious supporters are simply blind to the effects their religious promotion has on others? Alan hasn’t a clue what it means to belong to the most despised and least trusted group in the public’s opinion. And that was before anyone wrote books about the insideous effects religion has the public domain. Now we are despised and vilified because we dare to openly criticize this religious influence that causes so much unnecessary harm in the world. But even flying planes into buildings does not earn the same wrath from the religious.
Funny, that.

tildeb,
” Alan hasn’t a clue what it means to belong to the most despised and least trusted group in the public’s opinion. ”
Why don’t you tell me about it ? From what I’ve seen, Atheists are mostly being counter attacked after their own vicious attacks on Christianity. Also, and I ‘ve said this before, Atheists frequently ally themselves with Marxists and other anti Western groups. So tell me, why do you really hate Western Culture ? It must have really bummed you out that the most Atheist culture in existence, the USSR, lost to the Christian Capitalist West.

I agree, the promulgation of delusion beliefs does little to benefit anyone. We need people more grounded in reality, not less.
Sorry for the late reply Tildeb, it has been a heck of a work week, and I’m just catching up now.

I like that our views have been drawn in the public eye. The Atheist points are necessarily contentious as they challenge hundreds of years of dogmatic, unquestioned belief. Going will be rough, but we need to continue to man the bastions of rationality and continually expose the amount of self delusion necessary to accept most religious platforms.

It’s neat when a different context gives our brains a gentle tug. I think that is why I like the TED talks so much as they often spur new ways to look at old problems and just more thinking in general.

Well Mr.Scott, when you try to base public policy on magical thinking rational people need to stand up and push for a reality-based version of events/policy. If your beliefs do not cohere well with rational thought, then indeed they deserve criticism and refutation when they arise in public policy making.
