And the Liberal Party got spanked. Love it! A majority government and a strong opposition. Should be a good 4 years. Vive la Canada!

Vern,
I can’t say that a corner of my mind isn’t a little bit happy at the LPC’s fate. All the years of demonizing Alberta has finally payed off in spades for them. Even now I am reading blogs of pissed off LPC supporters that feel like they were entitled to all non-conservative votes in order to stop a CPC majority while not realizing that it is that very culture of entitlement that has turned the majority of Canadians away from them. I’m also quite pleased to see that the NDP were in second place in almost every riding in Alberta.

“entitled to all non-conservative votes” – great way to put it.
I don’t see eye-to-eye politically with the NDP (shocker!) but I couldn’t think of a better setup right now for Canada. I’m quite pleased with the seats the NDP gained, pleased to see them as official opposition, and pleased to see the 2nd place results in Alberta as well. I think it’s more indicative of the real balance in the country. Liberals were too populist for my liking and I hated how they’d say anything to make everyone happy at election time (example: free daycare, repeal GST, etc.)
Very happy, too, that all this “let’s continually force elections until we get the results we like” crap has come to an end. I still think there’s some election reform that would make things even better in Canada, but overall I’m very bullish on the country right now and proud to see that kind of democracy in action. My “Canadian half” is extremely proud! Now let’s see how the playoffs turn out! :)
I haven’t read yet – what was the voter turnout like?
