I do love what the commitment to mythology does to people. Religion distorts empathy and reason and allows bigots like the pastor featured in this clip to get away with spewing more than a few spitefully atrocious statements. It is funny though for a religion that often claims to represent absolute morality we observe that claims are presented such as: love thy neighbour. Note closely there is no “but only if they are heterosexual…” is not included anywhere in that phrase.
The heinous nature of christianity continues to stain our history with its bigotry and hate. We should do ourselves a favour and opt out as soon as possible.

With Christian Love, you don’t need any kind of hate (the only kind of hate parallel was the hate of the Nazis, Hitler the most so who was also Christian. One should not be surprised). This pastor is a hateful asshole, and anyone who would agree with him is just bad as he is. This type of thing is and should be criminal. To incite violence against another group because you don’t understand, or agree with them is to elicit harm against them, which is immoral to do so. The harm and offense principle can provide us with a moral way to view the world without God, and it’s far past time that we do so. It isn’t the only tool, but we as human beings have the capacity to know better, and do better. It is shameful that we still depend on imaginary stories of supernatural beings to be moral, especially when it is actually immoral to do so.
I am going to quote something I recently put up on my Facebook about this very topic:
“Have you noticed the outcries from the religious right lately? The hate, and bigotry in plain sight. The calls for death camps for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people. The ludicrous cries of outrage by people who don’t understand that seeing trans and homosexual people doesn’t, won’t and can’t make your children gay? The screams of the right to stop marriage equality isn’t the trumpet call that will prevent us from getting our duly earned, tax payer funded rights. Don’t get me wrong, you shouldn’t take their threats lightly. Their screams aren’t the usher of our doom, but the final screams of a dying breed.
The final death throws of an ideology losing ground. It’s why their threats are so extreme, so outlandish, and so brazen. They will be remembered as the villain, and we will be remembered as the oppressed who fought against that and won our freedom from the hands of tyranny. Indeed, you can always tell when you are winning by ferocity of your opponent’s pleas, screams and hateful words. They are always silent when they are winning and noisy when they are losing. In the end, if they aren’t complaining then you aren’t doing a good enough job. Complain all they like, no man can stop two people from loving each other.” – Reneta Scian
