I follow a blog of an Irish economics student, and he has noted in the past that if you do not have convoluted equations in an economics paper today it stands no chance of getting published. The best equations are the one’s no one understands… Madness.

It is, sadly, happening in my field as well. Specialist language and the prevalence of academese is suffocating the air out of many aspects of teaching.
This specialist bent is a make work project for wankers to continue to wank and be paid for it.
I appreciate the right vocabulary for the right situation, but in so many cases it is about keeping people rather than enhancing understanding and letting people in.

Getting paid to wank… That sounds awfully like the last 1,100 years of Christian philosophy! :)
