All is lost….
With all the noise coming from the rightwing deluded conservo-nut side of the blogosphere decrying loss of all hope, I thought I would reaffirm the reason why they lost and lost big in their election. Your base is believes in magic and mythology, here and now in the 21st century. Your wacky ideas had their time in the sun and royally screwed things up.
Today we embrace modernity and evidence based problem solving. Supplicating yourself to your magic-skydaddy and turning off your higher faculties has accomplished nothing of value except highlighting your ingrained ignorance and dismissal of reason. The religiously deluded exist now to be shown as the way <em>not</em> to do things and how not to construct a caring, ethical society.

Oh that answer of course is “No”. “No” a million times over. But its always fun to watch the deluded try and justify the rotten foundations of the RCC or as in this case yell at themselves while on hold.

Hallelujah Sweet Jebus, we gonna fill some murderous hearts with love tonight, just by whispering sweet nothings into the ear of our collective imaginary friend, AMEN!
You know, I spend a good deal of my time reading about how religion poisons and destroys lives all across the globe, all across history, but I admit I’ve always felt a little shielded here in Canada. Sure, Alberta sometimes seems like the ‘Texas of Canada’, but that ‘of Canada’ bit reigns in a substantial amount of theistic lunacy.
Sure, we have some obstacles to overcome to become a truly progressive society, but this is Canada, goddamit! We got that separation of church and state thing going strong! We aren’t like those backward United States! Faith isn’t paraded like a virtue by those in public office! Civil servants keep their faiths hidden where they belong and … and … who the fuck is this guy? A police chief promoting prayer? Really? REALLY? IN MY COUNTRY?
Ok, ok. Calm down. Let’s deal with this like cool collected intellectual people, and tear this guy a new one.

I had it all wrong, Creationism actually should be in the classroom and everywhere else. But do not believe me, listen as Mr.Deity lays it all out for you.
Sometimes people manage to crystallize a thought or a notion into a wonderful passage that is explicit, yet concise all at the same time. The Cynical Romantic from an older discussion thread on Pharyngula manages to capture much about what Atheism plus is and why it has been formed.

I totally dislike the idea of leaving the battleground on the sexism topic to the minority of offenders.
If there were a minority of offenders, that would indeed be a bad strategy.
Unfortunately, we have multiple stripes of “offenders.” The hardcore misogynist rape-threat-spewing hate-driven trolls are a minority. And if the rest of the community were against them, we might be able to drive them out.
However, regular old run-of-the-mill “I don’t hate women; that would require paying attention to them, and I’d rather spend my time talking about how smart I am” moderate sexists who don’t really give a shit about doing anything about the trolls… we appear to have a metric fuckton of those. They are really, really not a minority in the movement. They are likely the New Atheist base. And that sort of bullshit enables the really serious MRAs and trolls. Finding out that those people don’t care about us and don’t have our back in the face of mistreatment is disheartening. The oblivious, genteelly sexist types go all the way up to the “leaders” of the movement, to the degree that we have leaders (see: Dawkins mocking Rebecca Watson for pointing out that atheist men can do stupid shit too).
We cannot kick the hateful trolls out of the movement because not enough people in the movement give a shit. And we cannot kick the regular sexists out of the movement because they make up too much of the movement.
Hence the attempt to explicitly create a separate space within the movement where we all will have each other’s backs.
One person’s story about breaking free from religious delusion and embracing their humanity.
