Never underestimate the powah of the Kitteh!… :)

When I learned Lilith was dying, I felt like my heart was going to implode. The only thing that seemed to keep enough outward pressure was knowing that there would be another cat to love after she was gone, so I became the cause of probably 25% of the web traffic for the local Humane Society, looking for just the right cat to be next in my heart. There were two candidates originally, both selected because their profiles mentioned them getting along well with other cats. One got adopted in less than a week, long before Lilith vacated her position; the other just lingered and lingered and I couldn’t figure out why when she was so pretty and was described as totally sweet.
After Lilith died, I went to the Humane Society and met this candidate, and she snuggled into my arms and scent marked my cheek with hers. I fell all googly-eyed in love. Arb sighed melancholically because more cats means more vacuuming, and this one is long-haired and all white. Love prevailed, and I brought her home last night and named her Fiona.
Here are her first moments exploring the room where we’re keeping her while she and V-Kitten get to know one another by hissing under the door.

“FORT LUDLOW, Wash. – A Washington state homeowner says he left his front door open for his own cats. He wasn’t expecting a 35-pound (16-kilogram) bobcat to walk in, but that’s what happened.
The Port Ludlow resident told animal control officers he watched the wild cat jump over a couch, climb over a big screen TV and then jump up to a loft, where it made itself at home.
Washington Fish and Wildlife Officer Win Miller says the bobcat apparently felt safe upstairs.
With the help of a tranquilizer gun, animal control officers were able to secure the cat and remove it from the home last weekend.
Fish and Wildlife says the bobcat wasn’t harmed and was released back into the wild about six miles (10 kilometres) from the home. One of the homeowner’s pet cats was briefly scared away, but “Boo Boo” made it home safely Tuesday.”
I think of the crazy things I do for my cats and hope that it does not come to something like this.
Sometimes I get curious about what lies below the fold on some the less traveled pages of the CBC website. I found this:
“The scientist in Dr. David Dosa was skeptical when first told that Oscar, an aloof cat kept by a nursing home, regularly predicted patients’ deaths by snuggling alongside them in their final hours.
But his doubts eroded after he and his colleagues tallied about 50 correct calls made by Oscar over five years.”
The article goes on:
“After a year, the staff noticed that Oscar would spend his days pacing from room to room. He sniffed and looked at the patients but rarely spent much time with anyone — except when they had just hours to live.
He’s accurate enough that the staff — including Dosa — know it’s time to call family members when Oscar stretches beside their patients, who are generally too ill to notice his presence. If kept outside the room of a dying patient, he’ll scratch at doors and walls, trying to get in.”
The cat is the bringer of death. Seems sort of fitting for a kitteh :)
