This video on Stephen Hawking also carried another message about the state of American society. It would seem by the way he phrases his final question, that a lot of people actually believe that god(s) created the Universe. It is shocking to see the evidence of the depth of the religion delusion and how tightly it has people in its grip.
Still a good vid, but the implications are depressing.

Stephen Colbert is not a Conservative. He is a Liberal playing an over zealous Conservative. He falsely mocks Liberalism, in order to ridicule Conservatives. You are as intelligent as the US Congress that invited Mr. Colbert to testify before one of it’s committees.

Mr.Scott, trolling just for the sake of trolling is boring. At least try to add something marginally useful as opposed to just slinging mud.

Ok. I admit that this multiple universe theory is new to me. Since you scolded me, I’ve tried to brush up on it. It is still beyond my humble understanding how because the universe expanded in a predicted way since the big bang, you can know that multiple universes actually exist.
However, I hold to my original premise. What is the point of using a Liberal satirist’s attack on an Atheist theoretician? Is it merely comic relief ? A way to make an extremely ‘boring’ Hawking argument more palatable to the layman ?

One of the arguments you hear from theists is that our universe has been fine tuned to support our existence. This fine tuning is, of course, the hand of god etc etc.
The multiple universe theory speculates that this universe is just one of an infinite amount of universes that have spawned. So, there have been universes where the big bang could not over come gravity and collapsed, or where there was not enough gravity for planets and suns to condense. But though millions (?) of possible universes carried out over time(?) the one we inhabit can support carbon based life.
What is the point of using a Liberal satirist’s attack on an Atheist theoretician?
I think you are close to the truth with your assertion, as the NYT story is certainly a non-technical one and drawing attention to it could increase awareness of other, non supernatural based, cosmological explanations of the universe.

The Arbourist,
So are you a believer in the MU theory? Is it just another bullet in your arsenal to attack theism.
Actually you have obviously thought about religion on more of a metaphysical level than I have. I have pondered more on a personal experience plane. You also seem to be more influenced by theists evolving into Atheists or Agnostics. I have read more hardcore Atheists changing later in life to Theists. Wonder how that happens. How do you get disenchanted with disbelief.

The MU theory does have some useful explicative power, and it does much to demolish the anthropological argument and all the fine tuning that goes along with that particular train of thought. As far as being a ‘believer’ in MU theory, I would have to say that I am not convinced yet as not enough of the evidence has percolated up to the layman’s level yet for me to make a proper decision.

I imagine there is always movement between the two camps, nothing is really ever static when it comes to such contentious issues, such as religion, politics etc.
