Hello everyone,
What a restful/hectic week I’ve had over in Kaslo British Columbia as I touristed around Kaslo and participated in the annual choral workshop held in town. This trip was photographically sparse for me, but I managed to take a few pictures of the lake where we had the traditional Monday night wiener roast.
Yes, it really is that beautiful there.
I’m back home in Alberta now, and slowly finding my way back to my usual routine. Thanks all for your patience with a week of light but interesting posts.

So what music did you sing? I looked at the workshop website, but it didn’t say.

Came within a whisker of moving to the breathtaking (but often dark) Kaslo but settled for Cedar-by-the-Sea south of Nanaimo across from Gabriola and DeCourcy islands where the kayaking is excellent, the deer and cougars and bears lurk, and the pics are (I think) even more beautiful: where ocean meets land and forests and mountains (and only a week of snow just around Christmas!). Alas, now back in the heartland of Ontario where the view of smog and strip malls dominate the landscape and racoons and skunks are nuisance neighbours, (but, hey, there’s always good and bad no matter where one lives) yet lots more available ways to participate in the local music scene.

The country out there is certainly beautiful and for me it is such a nice change from the primarily urban environment (Edmonton) where I live. :)
They just need to learn to build roads that are a little straighter out there, the 100Km+ trip from Cranbrook to Kaslo fries my Alberta brain by the time I’m done driving it. :)

Arb, try biking it: no matter which direction, it’s curvy, uphill, and against the wind! I do believe there isn’t a flat spot until one gets to Delta.

The thought of that makes me tired. Our accompanist is an avid rider and always brings his bike with him. We brought our dog with us this year and I was quite happy just navigating around on foot, and as you mentioned it is always was curvy and uphill on our walks. :)

Funny you mention bringing your dog; ours was (and remains) a terrier (Wheaton) and my spouse insisted he be a necessary companion for any outdoor activities. We trained him (using an RCMP dog trainer) to respond to the family’s hand signals even at quite a distance so that we could take him off leash with us anywhere. He ran with me on my thrice weekly cross country runs and half dozen times alerted me to cougars and bears. Unfortunately, he couldn’t stand deer and would ignore any and all commands to chase them mercilessly for kilometers. Bells and whistles only work so well warding off the wildlife that might want to eat you, but smaller dogs (go figure… maybe the frequency of their barks?) seem to be ideal at terrifying these big beasts into fleeing or treeing them. Always a good idea to bring a dog when Nature lives just outside one’s door.

No sightings while I was around, although Shadow my faithful hound was intensely curious about this particular beach. :)

A return trip with some equipment (and a few rubber cut-outs) is in order! Could be a tourist boon!
