The wheels of justice are moving slow on this one, as is often the case with rape. It is ‘funny’ that our society won’t take the time to look at the reality of the situation when it comes to rape and the legal system.
One could say that, tacitly, rape is condoned in our society. Not a particularly happy conclusion, but there it is.

It will not change until our cultures fully embrace the fact (on a conscious and subconscious level) that women are not property of men (though we are according to the 10th Commandment), and were not created for men (though we were according to 1 Corinthians 11:9). What other explanation could there be. Women are still viewed by much of society as subhuman.

I think this ties in to Violet’s post as well. Until women are no longer responsible for the thoughts and actions of men this will continue to be an issue. There is a large swath of the American public who believe, in many cases, the woman “asked for it”. She was dressed too provocatively or in the wrong place or she was breathing.
