Star Wars Episode III had some great moments, the Battle of Corsucant is one of them. John Williams expertly set the scene, the base drum setting the martial tone early.
Thank you Star Wars for a dramatic rendition of what space battle might be like. Unfortunately, it resembles nothing of what it would actually be like.
Sadly Battle Star Galactica is closer, but ultimately in the same boat. Aw Frack. :/ Okay Science…do your worst.

This is great! But he missed one point, why not simply robots?
I think the most interesting/realistic space battle in a story I’ve seen so far is the one in Fire Upon The Deep. Here the ships and armada’s are leaping through space in quantum jumps and the “firing” only happens where you “think” the enemy is going to appear for a flash second before it leaps again. Battles, therefore, tumble through space over enormous distances and times, and contain an awful lot of math.

Sounds like a good book. I dunno though, it sounds suspiciously like fiction to me. My non-fiction phase has been going strong for years now, I’m not I could do this reading for ‘fun’ thing I hear people talking about. :>

Oh its fiction alright, but it was at the very least an interesting twist to your typical mainline ships turn astern and letting ’em have it all!
