The CBC does such a remarkable job for a mere pittance per Canadian.   We need to up the ante and properly fund the CBC at least to the average amount, $82 dollars.  Imagine no commercials on CBC Radio 2 and a sharp curtailing of the ‘adult contemporary’ drivel and a return to the classical haven Radio 2 once was.   Oooo…warm and snuggly feelings all over in DWR land. :)

Time to properly fund the CBC.

Time to properly fund the CBC.

prenticeecard   Hey Jimmy Boy, you certainly have shown where you priorities are and what you think of Albertans.

I don’t blame you though; we let you take power basically through acclimation – no fucks were given, as long as got rid of that WOMAN who was single-handedly ruining the province.  The flyby-night parachute (Hi Steven Mandel and other assorted Tory hacks! Your exercise in nepotism and narcissistic self-aggrandizement is noted) elections that merely waved at the trappings of democracy, that shit was cool here in Alberta where the electorate gave an enthusiastic “hell ya“.   It’s all okay thought because the electorate would enthusiastically vote in a bag of empty shirts as long as was the right shade of Tory blue.

Not that any of this fucking matters here in Blue Zombie Tory PC land. The latest example of the Alberta Tories pouring shit on the people of Alberta came from the priemier himself.  Corporate shill-master Jimmy Prentice was dropping truth left and right on CBC radio.

‘Speaking on CBC’s Alberta@Noon Wednesday, Premier Jim Prentice told host Donna McElligott that “in terms of who is responsible, we need only look in the mirror. Basically, all of us have had the best of everything and have not had to pay for what it costs.”

Damn son, you just said a mouthful.  I mean your predecessors have all at least tried to cover their contempt for the public and the public good.  You may as well just get a T-Shirt that says “privatize the profit and publicize the risk” it would simplify your PR and keep the rest of your team on message.  You could do it here in Blue-Zombie Alberta, they’d still vote you in, I guarantee it.

“I’ve never said Albertans are the problem,” Prentice told the Calgary Herald Thursday. “I’ve never, ever said that or anything like that. What I’ve said is that Albertans have to be part of the solution.

Prentice admits he “touched a nerve,” but is not backing away from his tough line.”

Oh, I get it now.  We all have to buckle down and tighten our belts!

“Premier Jim Prentice says Alberta has no plans of raising corporate taxes to deal with the current economic woes in the province.”

AlbertaCorporatismWell, that was completely obvious wasn’t it?  We certainly can’t raise the lowest corporate tax rates in the country that, fellow peons, would be virtual seppuku for EVERYBODY.  Instead, lets gut the public service, education and healthcare – the real culprits.  Let’s watch Jimmy helpfully explain why we must not tax the rich:

“[…] if we increase our corporate taxes, we will simply make ourselves uncompetitive and it will result in losing jobs,”

Oh, right. Because of all the other competing Tar Sands projects located in politically safe areas will completely take all the business…  I’m not sure how much more clarity is required for Blue-Zombie Voters to see fealty expected of our elected public officials toward their oil-overlords.

Oh hey, it’s also spring election time in Alberta.  And I bet that we’re going to vote these craven corporate sycophants in *again* because penury is awesome!

I was looking for an image to describe the Alberta electorate and their behaviour.  I think I’m getting closer with this one.  The last person in the human centipede is the typical ‘Alberta Voter’ getting all the shit, and just loving it (and clamouring for more!).

The Blue Zombie PC Vote Train! - Maybe it's time to stop the madness and not vote PC?

When you believe in magic you can just stow your moral and ethical compass in your back pocket and whistle while you do God’s work.

“Estimates suggest that anywhere between 60 and 80 percent of migrant women and girls are raped on their journey as they travel across the southern United States border. But many of the organizations that provide medical care to these migrants are refusing to provide emergency contraception or make pregnancy-related referrals to girls who have been raped. What’s more, the religious organizations that operate these groups are opposing a move by the Obama administration to address epidemic rape of young unaccompanied migrants by requiring contraceptive care.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m whistling up a storm. It takes a great deal of raw tune-age to mask the sound of melting moral/ethical compasses.

“[…]the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) that would require federally funded organizations that house unaccompanied migrant children to provide victims of sexual abuse with “unimpeded access to emergency medical treatment, crisis intervention services, emergency contraception, and sexually transmitted infections prophylaxis, in accordance with professionally accepted standards of care, where appropriate under medical or mental health professional standards.”

The rule includes a clause that would allow faith-based organizations to offer external pregnancy-related referrals for unaccompanied children. Grantees that house unaccompanied children could deny services “on religious or moral grounds,” needing only to coordinate with federal staff members who would provide the services. But a letter submitted last week even objected to a referral requirement that would “impose a duty on the conscientious objector to refer for the very item or procedure to which it has a religious or moral objection.” What’s more, the letter co-signers want the ORR to free up organizations “from any requirement to provide, facilitate the provision of, provide information about, or refer or arrange for items or procedures to which they have a religious or moral objection.”

My belief in foolishness trumps your rights as a human being to receive medical care.  Or more bluntly – You, Girl-Child,  get to keep the rapist’s baby – because Jesus.

There is not a thicker blight on the moral order of the universe than wooly-headed religious beliefs like this.  I’m short on the indignation today, I just wrote a post about how awesome Jim Prentice and Tory rule has been for Alberta, so all I have left is to say that this level of callous fuckwittery is just plain ole’ evil.

Oh, and of course, evil has support in the GOP.

“At the time, Republican lawmakers like Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) unleashed a round of attacks against the Obama administration over its “anti-Catholic bias.” Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) stated that the USCCB was a victim of discrimination “solely because it fundamentally respects the innate value and preciousness of an unborn child and refuses to be complicit in procuring his or her violent death by abortion.” Smith has otherwise supported anti-abortion legislation that makes exceptions in cases of rape and incest for minors. Still, ORR continues to contract with the USCCB and other faith-based organizations to provide services for unaccompanied alien children.”

Somethings just don’t change. :/

The chance of being raped is quite high for women migrating to the US.  This reality that women face when they attempt to cross the border.  This is also the reality that the aforementioned Faith Based Groups stridently ignore…

Sometimes we need a reminder that the world isn’t the news, that mostly(sometimes?), we are good people who do kind things for each other.

Couperin was born in Paris. He was taught by his father, Charles Couperin, who died when François was about 10, and by Jacques Thomelin. In 1685 he became the organist at the church of Saint-Gervais, Paris, a post he inherited from his father and that he would pass on to his cousin, Nicolas Couperin, and other members of the family. In 1693 Couperin succeeded his teacher Thomelin as organist at the Chapelle Royale (Royal Chapel) with the title organiste du Roi, organist by appointment to Louis XIV.

In 1717 Couperin became court organist and composer, with the title ordinaire de la musique de la chambre du Roi. With his colleagues, Couperin gave a weekly concert, typically on Sunday. Many of these concerts were in the form of suites for violin, viol, oboe, bassoon and harpsichord, on which he was a virtuoso player.

Couperin moved to the Rue Radziwill, close to the Académie Royale de Musique, in 1724. He stayed there for the rest of his life. He died in Paris in 1733.[1]
