This is about the only way to affect change against a police state. Selective targeting could get the attention of the plutocrats. But social media will need to be faster than cyber police and (another big if) enough americans would need to drop some selfishness and greed to find solidarity.

Poorer Americans for the most part are still under the delusion that they are a member of the soon-to-be-haves group and don’t believe that they are a part of the poor-and-never-will-have caste. Until that delusion changes no changes to the power structures in the USA will happen. For there to be mass protest and strike first the masses must believe they are a part of the class that must use these tools.
Until then, more Bread and Games! I hear the MegaBowl this year will have local hometown hero in it! I hear he will be rewarded handsomely for his ability to throw synthetic animal skin ball well. See we too can become member of elite class! There are literally dozens of them on the field that will become millionaires to play for the billionaire plutocrats! Yay Capitalism Freedum!

Arb, I just returned from a Women’s March in Halifax. One of the speakers quoted Howard Zinn. :)

Hi Carmen,
I met a woman yesterday with her 3 kids, and they had all attended one in Edmonton. Had no idea till I heard that (and later on turned on the news) how widespread the marches were. Impressive.
My two cents for the record: the march(es) were organized, legal, peaceful, and the p-hats were brilliant. The protests didn’t seem to be centered around any leader or even theme, but they appeared centered around the hats which were symbolic and showed solidarity. This can be even better than a leader because it’s easy (to wear, to adopt, etc.) and timeless. Far less divisive, far more wide-reaching. And kicked ass using social media, too. All in all, I thought the whole thing was very, very well done.
I normally rip on protests and protesters here (there is something to say about participation AFTER the election vs. before), but I know the far right is trying to de-legitimize this one where it can, so I thought I’d put my two cents here in support of it. Bravo!
Some predictions (in order of highest to lowest certainty):
1) Expect maternity leave rights in the US after the protests cool down (no smart leader gives in to any protest right away).
2) Illegals will try and crowd out message attempting similar protest tactic once the wall gets started, however this will not have same impact. They’ll eff up on the symbolism, for one.
3) Trump’s ego is very big, and this can be used to people’s advantage if they’re smart about it. Trump won’t be bullied, so a brute force thing will never work. However, Trump is also no longer happy to win just the Republican favor (if he ever does). He will want to be greatest to all Americans and all demographics. Thus, expect to see some Ivanka influence here re: maternity and “equal pay.”
4) Trump’s press advisor, stricken with Small Man Syndrome, is forced to resign over being a hothead.
Now on to the NFL playoffs!! WOOHOO!!!! ;)

You were doing great, Vern. Then you mentioned football – yuck. ;)
Funny you should mention the hats. I just commented on another blog that I didn’t wear one. I just don’t like the association to that word BUT I do understand that women are trying to disassociate the word from its sexual connotation, so I get it.
Do not get me started on tRump and his many personal flaws. Besides, it makes me want to swear and Arb runs a clean blog. :)

Football – awesome. :)
I support your position on not wanting to wear the hat. Guess I’m one way or the other on it, but when people take that sort of thing as far as a “take back” effort, i.e. taking back the word s!ut, p@ssy, etc. I think those efforts are laughable. They’re already slang words, and derogatory as well so why would anyone want words like that back? Would people want the word “d!ck” back? Ridiculous. Better to just to let the word die or try and reinvent the word, in my opinion…
Re: Trump and his many personal flaws, probably no disagreement there but I still believe that citizens get the government they ask for and deserve. A lot of what people are hating (or are pretending to hate) in Trump – such as arrogance, elitism, ignorance – they were what existed in the electorate on both sides which put Trump in the Oval Office. That, I believe, is the bigger problem that Americans need to wake up to. As for Trump himself, now that he’s in there, it’ll be all about the results he achieves, or doesn’t. We’ll see.
