If there has ever been a motif to this blog, it would be the sentiment that J.K. Rowling captures in her Twitter feed. The experience of society for females and males is distinctly different, and that difference is deleterious for the female half of the world. Men like to dance around the fact that they have the world basically arranged and shaped for their benefit. The mask of ‘being a good liberal’ quickly slips though once it has been demonstrated that the female in question has the temerity not to back down and not know her place in society. Then we can see the real society that we live in. Threats to male dominance are quickly acted on and the abuse J.K describes happens.
Yeah, so dudes, if you don’t threaten and demean women, good on ya, cookie achieved. Next big cookie to win is speaking out and telling your mates when they are acting like assholes toward women in society. It’s scary, but worth it if you happen to value those born female.

She was so right for writing this thread and using her influence to call out those so-called liberal men. Every real liberal is a feminist.

My only objection is her (seeming) belief that liberalism and feminism are compatible. Liberalism is deeply entrenched with and supported by the patriarchy.

Men have no idea, so Ms. Rowling gave this neo-liberal man *The Big Picture*!

Sadly, the men having no-idea motif isn’t changing particularly quickly. I started this blog in 2009 and have managed to have similar conversations with scores of dudes that are unaware of the way society works for half the population.
What is more troubling is the frequency at which I encounter individuals who already don’t know, and don’t want to know. Quite frightening indeed.

Great link btw Bleat, thanks for posting it. Liberal feminism is an artifice constructed by the dudes to denude the actual feminist movement. Libfem success and acceptance in society is based on the fact that choices, empowerment, and the individual focus do nothing to threaten the patriarchal status quo in society. :/

It depends on what you mean by ‘real liberal’ I suppose. The counter culture conservative backlash has split the term and made the term almost meaningless.

You’re right. I wrote liberal in the sense of progressive, anti-conservative. The term has different meanings like you say, here in Belgium it’s synonymous with rightwing neoliberalism, while in the US it mostly serves in opposition to patriarchal and often white supremacist conservatives.
