Seriously, what difference does she think it’s going to make if her manicurist is a Buddhist? Can Satan possess people via nail polish? Is religious belief so fragile that it can’t tolerate the slightest casual contact with anything different?

I think that’s the idea we have to tease out. If a belief requires such careful curation, does it actually stand up to reason and criticism. Most religious beliefs don’t, and thus as long as you view them as just that – a personal belief – then things are fine. Problems occur though when people think that I have to respect their belief in the skydaddy and should show deference to their Oooga-booga of choice.
