Jonah Davids, Sean Speer? Davids asked the question, Speer answered it? Shouldn’t the title then be Speer on Canadian Unis?

Ah, thanks! I find most of the “reporting” on this conflict to be heavily biased. For example, all civilians are “innocent” for some reason, even when they elect politicians who support the oppressive policies enacted toward Gaza and the West Bank. Are they truly “innocent” or just declared to be for political purposes?

The election in the Gaza Strip which brought Hamas to power was in 2006. Something like 40% of the Strip’s population was born since then, and any claim Hamas might have to a popular mandate has surely evaporated in such a long time with no further elections. Current surveys have shown that popular opinion in the strip is split about 45%-to-45% pro- and anti-Hamas.
So it is hard to argue that the present population has much real responsibility for Hamas’s oppressive policies there, or for the Nazi-like atrocities committed by Hamas during its invasion of Israel. Obviously this should not be taken as a reason for Israel to limit its military objectives to anything short of the total annihilation of Hamas, but it does show that much of the civilian population of the Gaza Strip is indeed “innocent”, and that any civilian deaths caused by Israeli operations, while unavoidable and entirely the responsibility of Hamas, are regrettable.
