Isn’t it interesting how often people replace a stated motivation/goal/purpose, a clear example of these in action, with a completely different set based on what the listeners decide is ‘more reasonable’. The underlying assumption, of course, that the person making the statements/actions doesn’t really mean what he or she is saying and that the listeners are in a ‘better’ position to judge even in the face of overwhelming evidence against it. The latest Hamas atrocity is a perfect example.
