Post modern and critical theories rely on the misuse of words to mystify people. The downstream effects of this bullshittery are apparent as even the Merriam Webster dictionary is now having difficulty defining what a woman is.
Always define your terms when you arguing with the woke – it is 9/10ths of their game. Demonstrate the linguistic tomfoolery and you might have a chance at a productive discussion.

WTF? Having a gender identity that is the opposite of male? I think they need to look up the meaning of opposite. And how does “gender identity” differ from gender? Maybe the term to use is “gender claim” or “gender display.”

I didn’t like Merriam-Websters even as a kid. I still have the American Heritage Dictionary I got for Christmas when I was 16.

Hi Steve,
Gender identity is the notion that we all have a unquantifiable, immaterial, and unfalsifiable gender soul that through our subjective perceptions may differ from the sex that our body was born in. This is the other half of queer theory in action ginning up an ‘natural’ explanation as to why we should give the time of day to men with autogynephilia – hence also why the queer activist left is so keen on indoctrinating and destabilizing children early as to further cement their illegitimate post-hoc claims in society.

I wasn’t expressing confusion about the meaning of the term, but that Merriam-Webster would use it so loosely.
Dictionary companies do not invent such things, they are just reporting on the usages they find, which means they are acting, in this case, like a canary in a coal mine. (Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!)

A sad state of affairs, in any case. :/

It always starts with a linguistic battle, a red flag that ideology is trying to steal ground. I read a good article about just this a few weeks back that went into who, exactly, was making these inclusions, why it was unified across every online dictionary, and in every case it was one person daring some editor to take issue with it running the risk of starting a mobbing. So here we are. Cowards to the front. This is a concerted effort by a few activists to get their ideology into print to represent an imaginary institutional consensus.
BTW, I’m not getting any email notifications of postings from you. I’ve done what I can do, Arb, re-subscribing and checking my settings to receive but (since the Microsoft update gong show) I have to manually come here to see what’s up. I wonder if this is a WordPress problem – or if you’ve heard from any others who share this problem – because there’s a bunch of sites all at once (like Steve’s) that no longer send me notifications of new postings. Any thoughts?

I think the Update borked many things, I am not receiving my weekly updates from *any* of the blogs I’ve subscribed to. Also, the ‘jetpack’ social media interface seems to pick and choose which posts to actually relay to other media. Hopefully WP can catch up on this backend chaos.
