Apparently, Arya did not meet the Liberal Party’s criteria (specifically, not speaking French and advocating against both the mandatory French language in federal government programs and policies and practices and the monarchy). So the Party is well within its rights to reject such candidates as it vets each candidate to meet its basic requirements to be a Liberal party member in good standing. Throw in Arya’s close ties with India and one can understand why his ‘contribution’ to the Liberal leadership race could quickly derail it from issues to core principles. If he doesn’t want to be a Liberal, he shouldn’t be… leadership race or not.

Put another way, such candidates hijack parties and are often funded by opposition to the parties.

The Liberal commitment to diversity seems to end when it comes to their political cohesiveness and party unity. Another example of values we force on others, but not ourselves.
