Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a believer? To put the mythology before reality, place higher regard for fiction over fact? This clip shows a ‘man on the street’ interviewer with a desperately poor couple, begging for money in front of a big box retailer. The interviewer offers them $20 dollars if they cross the word “god” off their sign.
They refuse. Their belief in the sky fairy and what would happen if they went against them directly affected their immediate physical future. Apparently, a hot meal for little Timmy, is not worth hazarding god’s wrath. Watch now and see how holding delusional beliefs are dangerous not only to you, but those around you.
This is why we campaign so strongly here at DWR against the purulence that is christianity and religion in general. Sacrificing the welfare of your child for your belief in magic is unconscionable. Make no mistake, it is religion that is at fault here and it should be done away with as soon as possible.
Science and religion do not mix. Science deals with observable reality and provable fact while religion deals with myth, magic and superstition. Combining the two is a prescription for horrible science and laughable predictions. This video is shining example of both in which through the wonders of science we can finally see one of the proteins that make up our bodies. But wait, there is something unusual about the shape of the protein… *mind flatulence* and then *boom*…godidit! Awesome!
Whoa!
Or not.
I’m always a bit flabbergasted when people start making pronouncements about moral issues and backing up their claims with biblical proof. You may as well be saying that your beliefs are decisively supported by the ham sandwich you had for lunch. Qualia Soup dissects the inanity and lack of intellectual rigour of theists who claim to have absolute morality on their side. Unsurprisingly, the theist’s position turns out to be quite immoral when all is said and done. Colour me shocked.
Justice and morality are human concepts. Trying to understand them through 2000 year old bronze age goggles does little to enhance one’s understanding as 43ally from youtube illustrates.
As noted at Shakesville, Halloween is great time of year to watch all the conservative christian projection going on.
“They whinge incessantly, with precious little evidence (that is, none), about how pro-choice advocates lie and fearmonger to try to talk pregnant women into abortions, but then they celebrate Halloween with Hell Houses, which are nothing but mendacious fearmonging on steroids.”
Child-targeted religious mendacity. The lengths people will go through to get one to believe in their particular bogyman. Appalling. :(
