One of the problems with christianity (and other made up bullshite) is that if given the time to actually think about what believing in it actually entails, you can easily end up among the growing ranks of the unwashed atheist hoard. The problem is squaring with what you been told with what actually is. If you closely read the bible you will see how morally repugnant it actually is, and realize that ethical claims cannot be based on this mouldering blood soaked text.
Meridian Frost’s work was brought to my attention by my fellow co-blogger Mystro. Frost analyses then dissects what it takes for a good christian to get into heaven. You would think that altruistic behaviour would be a prime requisite. You would be wrong, it requires grovelling and fealty to the sky-daddy before you are even *considered* for eternal bliss. Frost lays it all out and precisely details how fetid and unbelievable the whole concept is. Enjoy his incisive commentary.
Rick Perry is delusional. What is worse, he is propagating and magnifying his own personal stupid beliefs and inflicting them on the people of America. When faux news steps up and starts supporting your cause, that should be the first indicator that you have left the land of the rational and now are mired in the magical bullshite sands of religious indoctrination.
Texas and a good portion of the southwestern US is being baked into submission due to the changing climate. When the desert is licking at your front doorstop, I think then the idea that we are having a negative effect on our biosphere might sink in. Then again, maybe just another prayer rally will make things all better.
Texas is one of the special states, they are individualistic, hardworking and have managed to elect one of the most loopy Governors in the world. Organizing a prayer rally to help the nation. Err…
“Gov. Rick Perry called on Jesus to bless and guide the nation’s military and political leaders and “those who cannot see the light in the midst of all the darkness.””
Rather than attending to policy, you know his JOB, Mr.Perry is calling on the higher power that be to fix things in America through the power of prayer. I’m thinking they should burn a witch or two, just to set the right tone as to which century their beliefs belong in.
I’m going to agree with Thunderf00t, a little more time spent doing tangible things in the real world trumps wasting your time praying for the good omens of the magic sky daddy.
Oh and more on Rick Perry –
Religion makes people do horrible things. Today we look at religion making people do horribly funny and obtuse contortions to history and biology. This abuse of fact, reason and common sense is sponsored by and completely underwritten by the nonsense you can find in the bible. However, it must be noted that this is the first time that I have seen biblical evidence for Dragons (awesome)!!
I’m not really sure what Thunderf00t was trying to do, but the video illustrates how difficult it can be to talk with those who beliefs are firmly mired in the fantastic. Apparently, by talking louder and repeating the same phrase over and over it becomes “more right” than if only said once.
The familiar religious dodge, not to mention blasphemy, was at front and centre as the older woman not only told Thunderf00t he was wrong, but told him that her interpretation was *right*. We should talk to her more as it appears she does know the mind of god…
Or perhaps she clings to her interpretations of biblical fact because they happen to support her demonstrably banal and offensive take on the magic story known as christianity.
When you break down what it would actually mean to be a deity, or to have absolute power and control over another one can start to appreciate the ghastly way in which events and decisions can go wrong. Unchecked power can only lead to psychopathy, and that is precisely the power so many of the faithful want to ascribe to their particular godhead.
I do not, and will not submit to any celestial dictatorship that is so potentially cruel remorseless. Is the video far fetched? Or is the video a chilling commentary on the system the religious so desperately seem to need?
