If this takes several more weeks or months to drill that relief well, then this could very well be the end of life in the gulf coast region at least and quite possibly the Atlantic ocean and perhaps beyond. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this is the worst disaster in the history of life on earth.

As of today they might have it clogged up enough so they can properly cap the darn thing. It a small ray of sunshine in otherwise very gloomy story.

I’m was very pleased when I heard that news on the radio today. It’s a shame that these guys have to repeat the mistakes of 30 years ago. The Rachel Maddow Show had an expose on the situation and how it compared to the exact same thing that happened 30 years ago, with the same company, transocean (in their previous name), trying exactly the same things to plug the well back then. Safety technology has not advanced one step since then.

I would posit that safety technology is not particularly profitable and therefore by what market wisdom says, is not worth funding. Ah, the free market in action, it is such an enlightening and ennobling experience.
*facepalm*
I guess 3 billion dollars plus, is not a good reason to invest in safety tech. Don’t you just hate it when externalities come back to bite ya in the butt?
