It is a new year. Some small sliver of optimism remains –
If you look at the world and say “Yes, there are enough homes for people, yes, there is enough food for people, but if we give it away for free they won’t have earned it and the economy will collapse.” Then you have chosen money (a constructed medium of exchange) over living beings who only want to continue living in peace and safety.
And I have no qualms telling you, that is the wrong choice, and you have been brainwashed by this destructive, exploitative system.

Sadly, there is, though, a level of truth to it. Economies would collapse, then 100% of people would be in the shitter. It wouldn’t last for long, things would right themselves and perhaps we could build a better society with a different means of exchange.
There is a solution to the hoarding problem. A young economists thought this up early in the last century and actually implemented his plan in a small town. It was a success. It worked. Money lost value the longer you kept hold of it. The incentive was to keep it flowing.

That is interesting John, I had not thought of this as a polemic against the evil of money itself, but rather the system that makes stuff more important that people.
I’m thinking that programs like universal healthcare, guaranteed minimum income, affordable housing etc. would do much to combat the disparity we see in many western societies.
The indulgence and arrogance of the elites has blinded to them to the fundamental truth of any society. There are many more poor people than rich people, and if pushed far enough the poor will bring the rich, and society crashing down with them to feed themselves and their families.
Thus, I saw the quote as a reminder of what is important in society and the choices that need to be made to make it viable for everyone.
