Tom Lehrer is a Renaissance Man of the twentieth century. He’s not only a composer, pianist, and singer, who lectures extensively on musical theatre; he’s also a published and teaching mathematician.
Mystro is a particular fan of Dr. Lehrer’s work and has performed it on several occasions, when our choir replaces rehearsal with Talent Nite.
Last week was our singing teacher’s student cabaret. Upon learning, maybe a month ago, that the Italian aria he had been working on wouldn’t do for a cabaret, Arb had to scramble for some different, lighter repertoire, and decided to follow Mystro’s example. Here’s the song Arb sang, as performed by Tom Lehrer himself:
(and yes, he brought down the house)

The Intransigent One
The song is particularly poignant because our singing teacher’s studio struggled for years with a pigeon infestation. As a result, our singing teacher hates pigeons with the burning fire of a thousand suns. Arb spent a lot of last summer helping her out by installing anti-pigeon spikes on all the perchable surfaces, cleaning up pigeon guano, and extracting dessicated pigeon carcasses from behind things they should never have gotten into.
Needless to say, our teacher loves this song.

@NtP
Well, I’d like to say it’s all me, but actually we have a quadraumvirate of writers here at DWR. I share this platform with The Intransigent One, Mystrox, and Bleatmop. I tend to be the most prolific, but the other authors contribute when they can and add much to the variety and unique nature of this blog.
