I’m in complete agreement with this animated short. I can see from my own personal experiences the vastly different feelings I get between someone sympathizing with me versus someone who empathizes with me.
I can see why empathy is less common – it is waaaaaay harder to achieve because being empathetic requires time, energy and authentic connection with the person you are communicating with.

Arb, you’re missing all the fun. It’s an abortion festival in blogland
And if you follow David back to his blog, you’ll see his two latest posts.

The only “pathy” I’m familiar with is “apathy”. So, I tried to watch the video. Oddly enough, every time I tried to watch the video, my penis leaped up and blocked both my eyes and ears.
Damn, that thing is always getting in the way!

I’m really not here to entertain you or your passive aggressive tendencies.

Cheers.

I see empathy as compassion… ‘com’ meaning ‘with’ and ‘passion’ meaning ‘suffering’. Exercising compassion requires the emotional connection for sharing, for being truly ‘with’ someone on the same emotional level. It is vulnerable but it is, at its heart, the essential ingredient to our humanity.
