The key remains recognizing and implementing the sustainability standard. Only then can true costs and lasting benefits be realized. Vilification is not a smart way frame these vital issues because all of us must consume; what we have to do is figure out ways and means to do so in ways that don’t degrade source materials and environments but balance a sustainable system.

There is nothing in the ideology of capitalism that is sustainable.
Would you say the same thing about The Jungle? Historically speaking, the shaming and the denunciation of economic and social ills has been the only way to change society.
Discussing rational plans – sustainability – with the proprietors of capitalism and capitalist theory, is next to useless as the ideology is self-referential and self sustaining.
I would argue that the necessary change cannot come from within the system – there is simply too much inertia to overcome to change the status quo.
