Our corporate news media is very good at keeping inconvenient facts away from the public eye. A six minute video, by definition, cannot provide many startling revelations, but rather a starting point to become informed and hopefully take action.

I had to “press this” as the reblog button wasn’t working. I’m not sure how “press this” works, (I only know because someone told me that they had to do it for my blog and that sometimes the reblog button doesn’t work). It says source, and has a link, so I’m hoping it links back to you. If not, please let me know so I can edit it and make sure you get the credit.

“Our corporate news media is very good at keeping inconvenient facts away from the public eye.
And so are you, Arb! You speak nothing about security here. Where’s your comments about the rapes and attempted rapes being committed by these refugees? Where’s your post about the vandalism and violence on a train carrying a bunch of them to Germany? Where’s your post on the academic status of these refugees, or military/criminal record of them, or what we’re doing/not doing/can’t do in order to screen them?
Don’t get me wrong – I agree with most of the video. I agree that there are a number of people using xenophobic and economic arguments to refuse refugees which is shit (I’m currently helping a company build more housing for these refugees), but the video conveniently doesn’t go even a millimeter beyond it’s west-hating, anti-capitalist narrative and with that, I believe loses much of it’s credibility through it’s self-serving ignorance.

“Upon release, more than 26,000 of the criminal aliens — about one in six — were arrested again within the time period studied (October 27, 2008 through July 31, 2011). They were charged with nearly 58,000 new crimes during this time period. The 58,000 new crimes included more than 5,000 major or violent criminal offenses, including 59 murders, 21 attempted murders, and 542 sex crimes. In addition, they were charged with more than 6,000 drug violations and nearly 8,500 DUI violations.”

We’re not just bringing in people who need help, and we’re not just bringing in people you love because they’re anti-Christian. We’re also bringing in far more of that “Rape Culture” and “Patriarchy” blindly along with it. You know? Those things you keep pretending like you’re against, until your anti-American ideologies clash with them?

The video (and you) say nothing about screening. Part of the reason why we can’t – and shouldn’t – be letting hundreds of thousands of these refugees in all at once is because we can’t screen them properly. Keep in mind that the people to do this, and the apparatus to do this, is the same electronic and worker apparatus that is used to process both legitimate immigrants and illegal immigrants as well. To then dump hundreds of thousands or even millions of refugees on top of that – OF COURSE it’s going to be slow, but that doesn’t have to have anything to do with xenophobia. It can be simply about infrastructure resources, and since your kind are keeping our borders an open sieve as it is already, and are also making sure we do nothing but coddle and appease Assad while he continues to commit war crimes against hundreds of thousands of his people, those resources are already fully tapped.
Yes, this is wrong
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/11/mosques-vandalised-governors-block-syria-refugees-151117130527913.html
and this is wrong (worse than wrong)
http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/real-canadians-hate-syrians-calgary-school-vandalized-once-again-with-hateful-messages
and people need to see more of this:
https://worldhelp.net/i-am-a-syrian-refugee/?gclid=CLif3YGG0MsCFQmSaQodCBAIGg
and this:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/syrian-refugees-help-homeless_us_5655d697e4b079b28189d002
…because they are people and are human beings, but since your side won’t push for greater screening, and conveniently your side doesn’t have to put up with the economic or physical consequences of it, either, I say if you want these refugees so bad then I say get off your own asses, sponsor them yourselves, and invite them to move into your own home without any of the background checks you think are so not necessary you want to avoid talking about them.
So be it – if you’re so bent on letting them all in unscreened is the right thing to do, then put your white guilt money where your mouth is and instead of expecting others to pay for everything, step up to take the risk yourself. We don’t need to rely on government to pay for them just so you don’t have to take a dollar out of your pocket or lift a finger, but we do have to rely on government to do a proper screening so at best that’s going to keep things slow so it can be done properly.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2015/dec/15/ted-cruz/ted-cruzs-claim-head-fbi-told-congress-they-cannot/
That’s why I think a safe zone inside Syria – theoretically – would be a better idea where you could get far more mileage out of donations and resource support, and also keep responsibility and accountability (at least to some degree) with Assad. Plus, if he takes any further action towards UN refugees, the US now has an excuse to take him out.
Once again, i don’t think the solution is just on your side, Arb, but I do agree that people have to pull their head out of their idealogical asses and see both the human side and the safety side.

@Vern
I ? I had not realized that I was a major news outlet. :) A 6 minute primer on the Syrian situation necessarily has to leave important stuff out.
Believe it or not, I am not up to speed with every issue in the world. :) I do look forward to perusing your links though and catching up.
Just watched it again. Not seeing the ‘West hating, anti-capitalist narrative”…
Vern, it seems like you’re going through an awful lot of trouble in order to pick a fight here. Have you been arguing elsewhere and brought the high-emotion with you? It seems like you’re going from zero to lightspeed in microseconds.
Six. Minute. Video.
You must have been arguing on the internet elsewhere? Arguing over at VW’s perhaps? :)
Have I written on this previously and forgotten about it? You better tell me, since you seem to have my arguments in hand. Anyhow, as stated earlier, I’ll take a look at the links and follow up, so at least you can argue with what I say instead of what the Arb inside your head says. :)

This video was a good summary of a lot of the basic facts getting left out by major news corporations! I think I can see your point that this is obviously simplified to fit into 6 minutes, which can seem to minimise some of the issues. When watched alongside actual news on the subject it makes a lot more sense!

It is always a good idea to get information from as many sources as possible. Triangulating contentious news stories can be time consuming, but almost always worth the effort.
