I like how the first method he shows is actually the best way to chop an onion. To me there is something satisfying about watching Gordon Ramsay perfectly chopping this onion here.
I started using this method and I’m never going back. :)

That hack Ramsay again! Look a the result of his efforts. A cut that random would be laughed out of an introductory kinfe skills course. Do the horizontal (not angled) cuts first, much closer to the board – as far apart as the pieces you want. Pull the knife so that you use its length to help you cut. Pushing will only work with a very sharp knife. You need three or four horizontal cuts, as far apart as the size of the pieces you need. Once you”re into the portion of the onion that’s at 45 degrees from horizontal, you don’t need any more horizontal slices. Then do the axial cuts the way he shows, followed by the ones across the onion. After two or three tries, you will be better than the famous Gordon Ramsay.
