The game plan is the same, whether it be poverty of racism or the poverty of patriarchy. Poor whites were given just a smidgen more social and economic power that the poor blacks in the USA – enough to make the us vs. them categorization viable. The will of the oppressor is carried forth on the backs of those he oppresses, whether it be the handmaidens of patriarchy or the poor white people, historically speaking.
“The system of patriarchy can function only with the cooperation of women. This cooperation is secured by a variety of means: gender indoctrination, educational deprivation; the denial to women of knowledge of their history; the dividing of women, one from the other, by defining “respectability” and “deviance” according to women’s sexual activities; by restraints and outright coercion; by discrimination in access to economic resources and political power; and by awarding class privileges to conforming women.”

The ‘division of women’ gives me the most gut-aches, Arb. When I read of women who support MRA’s it enforces the idea that yes, women will even cleave to those guaranteed to bring them down the lowest. Never ceases to amaze me, that. Is that, too, a product of the patriarchal system? :(

Yes Carmen. It’s called ignorance is bliss.
Arb. My linguistic antennae were twitching when I read craftsmen but then I realised the context. The current day triangle for patriarchal oppression would be interesting.
The bottom layer is sadly easy: poor black/indigenous women. But then what do we select from? Women who are old, ugly, fat, physically disabled, mentally ill, basically any woman who doesn’t fit the youthful beauty sex object requirements. The top is as easy as the bottom layer. It’s called ‘Men’.

It saddens and give me pause as well. I understand why men don’t get quite easily – almost none of this stuff directly affects them. Many think that their experience is the default experience in society and thus can prattle on about ‘egalitarianism’ and ‘meritocracy’ as if they were actually viable concepts. :/
Are there any “good” patriarchal bargains to be struck by women inside a patriarchy? Getting cookies from MRA’s could be seen as just another bargain being struck to gain some measure of validation in society – survival in a hostile environment tends not to be a pretty thing.

Perhaps worth busting out the ole MS-Paint skillz? :) Would need a bigger triangle as there is more stratification in society.
Well the top layer for women would be the fuckable ones that don’t overtly contest their status in society. The layers, I hypothesize, would be based on how far a woman falls from, as you stated, the white male-gaze approved, sex object. :/
Damn…maybe we should talk about something cheery…like Cholera.

Not sure there is stratification as such. Your comment summed it up. Fuckability.
So therefore ugly old fat etc etc black poor women. Same next for white women.
Next layer, young hot bitz of stuff.
Then MEN.
See. Easy.
