Many of the versions of Catwoman did not expose her pulchritude directly, but made damn sure you knew she “had a pair” as it were. To some extent, I understand that it is important to emphasize the superhero is female, the supposed weaker sex, but … naw, just fanboy lust.

I remember when Image comics first came around. Specifically the Wildstorm division. I think that was the tipping point for comics to start their trend to be drawn like this across all companies. Basically, they released a comic book called Gen13 that was basically drawn to be fan service for nerd boys. All boobs and ass and crotch. It basically hit the the market by storm and changed everything. It not only leeched traditional comic book fans away from Marvel and (mostly) DC, but it also drew new fans in. I think it was ’99 when they were able to use DC characters in a non-cannon form, signifying DC’s capitulation to the new order of business. Basically the market spoke and the market said it wanted fan service for horney boys. I think it would take another Image like revolution to change things back the other way.

I used to try to draw women but I’d always draw them really sexy and I was horrified to realize that I couldn’t think of any other way to draw them.

Sounds similar to the internalized misogyny one sees feminists talk about. :/

I’m not a comic book aficionado, and wasn’t aware of the events you describe.
Sounds like another win for capitalism and the values it promotes…
