I can’t even get gay supporters of trans activism to understand their blanket support is doing life long harm to young gays and lesbians. When it comes to this support, it’s like a thick linguistic fog descends and shuts down any ability to think independently or even pay any attention to reality.

No. It’s not hyperbole. It’s unfolding right now.
It starts with recognizing the take over of language (that I have said for decades): today, up means another kind of down, white another kind of black, subjective feelings another kind of truth, ‘lived experience’ another ‘way of knowing’.
Perhaps a more fruitful approach is to understand what’s going on as a kind of cultish religion where any and all criticism is blasphemy against the One True Ideology: groupthink (groups are real, individuals who constitute them merely cogs). Those who support it are the faithful; those who don’t are immoral and either go away or just shut the fuck up.
This is a revolution that is contrary to liberalism and so it attacks the foundations of western civilization. And people are falling all over themselves to help it along, to prove they are demonstrating their virtue and so belong with the Army of the Righteous.
