The contradictions in The Bible, if you ask me, seem quite a bit more intentional to me. And the first statement elucidates a feeling of “attempting to seem reasonable, and asking for rational inquiry” when in actually it is a pseudo attempt at rationalism, as elaborated by the second statement. This is not the only instance and I’d argue The Bible is laden with them. When told not to question as a blanket rule, one will question. There is a lot of psychology involved is the ways and reasons why there is contradiction. It is possible with how the human brain works to place information in such a way that the target person just spends their time chasing their tail. The Bible is designed to trick you, designed to circumvent your logic, in my opinion. These contradictions are far less benign that many believe them to be, and that is what makes them so much more dangerous. Only ignorance opens the doors for such fallacy to take root.

I agree and disagree with you on this one. One of the best ways to turn people away from their books is to have them read it carefully without having anyone around to interpret it for them. The bible is bugfuck crazy all on its own, and most people that possess more than a whit of sense pick up on this and start to question things. With questioning comes disagreement and well, if you disagree with your church, out with you heretic.
As far as circumventing logic is concerned don’t you think that its kinda built into the system? It is what believing is all about after all.

Yes, I do agree with that. Systemically, we as a culture can sabotage our ability to see fact and fiction as separate things. I just tend to see religion as the “Lemon Car” salesman in most exchanges, without necessarily addressing the way in which cultural thinking plays a role in entertaining irrational superstition. But you are quite right, it is in some ways built into our system.
