Get out the duct tape!  You’ll need it to keep your jaw from hitting the floor over how amazingly absurd this fine christian preacher is.  Because people are protesting outside of his church they must be Sodomites and by extension the coffee that they are serving must be infused with semen.

Yes, I know.  So fasten your seat belt Dorthy – the good reverend awaits.

Oh hey, let’s investigate his source.

Hmmm…oh and snopes says its BS, just if you are really concerned about your overpriced coffee.  Research time less than one minute.  Hmm…I wonder if possible anything else the good pastor says should be questioned?

Oh Vishnu, it isn’t that bad.

Yes, hooman, it is that bad, now fetch me my mousie!

Ah, the joy of the free press down in the US.  Let’s catch up with Noam as takes us through some possible solutions to the Palestine/Israel conflict.

From the tumblr: But What Was She Wearing?

Anon:  “There is a difference between cat calling and complimenting someone. Some of these ladies have experienced true cat calling and some have merely been complimented and instead of saying thank you or flashing a brief smile, they chose to be rude and take it offensively. I’m not saying cat calling isn’t a negative thing and needs to be stopped. But ladies, we need to stop acting as though every compliment is a form of harassment. You’re beautiful and it’s okay for others to notice it.”

Dear Anonymous,

Two things:

First, you can notice something without commenting on it. People of all ages, gender identifications, religions, and sexual orientations do it all the time. You can keep your thoughts to yourself.

Second, who the fuck are you to tell anyone that they experienced something in the “wrong” way? How dare you say that these people “chose to be rude and take it offensively” – as though these situations are completely innocent, taking place in some weird, removed context where the women or men making the reports have never before been harassed or objectified; as if, without that specific understanding of tone and implication, the only real option is an absurd coin-flip assessment where, without adequately weighing appropriate responses, they make a wholly superficial judgement and “choose” to be “rude” and take it “offensively.” Are you really so ignorant, or are you “choosing” to be wrong?

Additionally, what the heck is “rude” about these individual’s responses? The fact that some state they didn’t feel safe, or the fact that they didn’t understand or respond to their situations as you, someone wholly removed from the reality of their respective experiences, believes they should have?

Fascinating stuff; you can see the gender divide in action.  So many Dudes have no clue about the Gauntlet women have to navigate *everyday*.

Dirtywars    You know what Remembrance Day should be for?

1.  Remembering all those who have died in war.  Precedence on the civilian deaths, because they die at far higher rate than any established military force.

2. Educate yourself as to what war is and how it is waged.

3. Take action to prevent future war and the inevitable human suffering that goes along with the organized murder we like to call warfare.

Today I’m all about the second bullet point.

Have your minute of silence.   Then take an additional hour and a half to get a glimpse of what the war on terror looks like.

monitorsAsk any IT professional about security and you can almost always prepare yourself for a story or three about people using strongly encrypted passwords such as ‘password’ or ‘admin’.  Or if it is a particularly good day, helping people understand that encrypted functions exist…  Here is story from CBC.ca about how fallible people actually are when it comes to all this new fangled technology.

“Insecam.com, a new website, is broadcasting online private security camera footage from thousands of spots across Canada — all without the knowledge of the people who own and operate the cameras.

Insecam.com has feeds from internet protocol cameras (or IP cameras) all over the world.

“This is one of a series of websites that have been around for a while that basically go through and troll the internet for open ports,” said Tod Maffin, a tech columnist based in Vancouver. “Until fairly recently that information was just kind of held for people’s own curiosity, but now, as we’re seeing, this site and other ones as well are posting their findings.”

It is fairly amazing, you can spy on people across the world. Most are fairly uninteresting; parking garages and the like, but a couple are in residential areas and stuff. Crazy.

“Many of these cameras come with default passwords to access the footage on a website while you’re away — and often people fail to change them.

That’s where Insecam comes in. The site accesses the feeds using default passwords and broadcasts them.

CBC News watched several feeds from various locations in Winnipeg on Friday, including a car insurance sales office, a candy store, a tattoo parlour and others aimed at people’s front doors, backyards and properties.”

A word to the wise when it comes to technology. RTFM. (Read the Flippn’ Manual)  Oh, and use a difficult to guess password.
