And like a virus, it has to be contained.

And from what i gather, he makes a living out of being a “clean” comedian.

Respectable, but I’d rather have the invective laced honesty of a Carlin to laugh/sad with, as opposed to pusillanimous drivel meant to not offend peoples ‘sensibilities’.

Agreed. Until now I’ve refrained from commenting on his chosen career, but I’ve been itching since first encountering him to post a Jim Jeffries sketch and say “Now this is a real comedian.”

Funny comedian. :> His material on religion is awesome.
Needs to work on his misogyny, but who doesn’t?

Humans have a deep need for tribe and community, and religion serves that purpose for some. So perhaps the right question is not how to get rid of it, but how to make a less toxic replacement.

Oh, so like changing fundamental structures of society. That is a tall bill to fill.
Alternatives that build community and relationships must be created. I don’t have much hope for the current batch of atheism though – too many dudely dudes.

Self-indulgence does not build community. A true community is a kind of gift economy. There is no place for entitlement, it’s about meeting actual needs. Fix it even if you didn’t break it, but don’t assume other people will fix what you break.

What do you think the first steps to building stronger communities would be? There are so many chicken/egg roadblocks involved in the process.
I’m thinking if wages had actually risen with productivity, community would be much easier to come by as economic survival is foregrounded in so many peoples lives.
Would a guaranteed minimum income move us in the right direction?
These are just some of the economic pieces off the top of my head, but there are so many other facets to the situation…

Yeah, I like guaranteed minimum income. Money only works when it’s moving around.
