Well he figured it out. One small step for man, one giant step for mankind.

It’s nice to have someone so optimistic comment. I kind of saw it the other way around. The section that started with, “don’t you try to understand if you haven’t seen your heroes fall…” illustrated to me how giant a step it was for this individual and why it’s so difficult to escape the clutches of religiosity. There is a long hard road yet before humanity.
But perhaps you’re right, and that’s why this video is so inspiring. Every person who makes the courageous break from faith should be celebrated as a wondrous global achievement.
Thanks for commenting.

Perhaps it was easier for me to understand; I went through a similar process and it was as difficult as it became uplifting. Trading in comfortable slavery for self-empowerment requires… courage because you have to leave everything of meaning behind and start all over. Alone. It’s different jumping from one religion into another: then you exchange a set of false friends for another set – hardly notice the difference. But leaving religion, faith, God, that must be done alone. It’s that darkest and coldest time of the night, just before the dawn.

Congratulations on making it through. It’s a sad thing that it is so difficult. Fortunately there is starting to be places and groups to welcome new non-theists to make the transition less painful. But we still need a lot more of them.
