This is a next level comment on a thread from a post on The Feminist Current titled “If trans activists truly cared about feminism, they would respect women’s spaces”. Simple no? It’s hard to argue with the tagline, although in the comment section the TRA (trans rights activists) are certainly giving it a go, and predictably being shot down as the commentariat over the FC has little time for male delusions, dick, and the entitlement that goes along with it.
I chose this comment because it is so succinct in describing the problems with the trans activists platform.

Thanks DSQL for laying down the truth of the situation. :)

Except there is such a thing as body dysphoria which can occur in males as well as females. By ignoring this fact she’s not likely to get through to a trans activist.

I agree 100% here.
What is problematic though, is that it seem that most TA do not ever want to define their terms, including whether a body dismorphic diagnosis as per DSM 4/5 is necessary or not.
It seems as if, we are to take the word of individuals at face value. But at the same time not follow current psychological remedies/evidence based procedures for treating body dismorphic disorders.
The treatment regime for bodily integrity disorder, or anorexia is quite clear and said methodologies proscribe the near polar opposite of what many TA advocate for, namely gender-‘transition’ and all of the negative effects that come with it.
In so many conversations I see the threat of self-harm and suicide, and in the same breath a firm conviction that gender-dysphoria is *not* a mental illness…
Yet clearly, self harm over a image of the body that does not concur with reality *is* a mental illness.
What it seems to come down to is that notion that it is wrong to oppose (mostly) males and what they say about themselves. More, to the point, they not only want to dictate their reality, but the reality of those around them too for a host of mostly nebulous reasons that are meant to threaten, guilt, and shame those around them into compliance.
I find TA positions to be quite unsubstantial as most refuse to define the terms they use or come to a common definition of just about any contentious point.
What seems to resonate clearly though through all of the ‘discourse’ I’ve had is this – comply with my reality because *I* say so. And I have a great deal of difficulty distinguishing that from what the standard male purveyors of patriarchal wisdom have to say…

Nobody is really happy with their body, though. I have yet to meet even one person that fully accepts their own body and doesn’t worry about what they look like or how other people will respond to the way they look. Gender roles by their very nature are rigid and unforgiving, which makes most people unhappy with themselves and unhappy with the way they are treated if they don’t look the way everyone expects them to look.
This isn’t to say that I dismiss the reality of gender dysphoria. However current transideology dictates that “cis” people don’t have mental conflicts with their own body, which is bullshit. The crux of their entire argument seems to be that they and they alone have some kind of corner on being unhappy with themselves.
At any time a woman goes under the knife to make her boobs bigger or to remove her inner labia, she is having surgery that conforms her body to gender norms. At any time a man chugs down protein shakes, lifts weights, and injects hormones to become more muscular, he is conforming his body to gender norms. Gender norms are also based on white culture, and non-white people have the added burden of lightening their skin or straightening their hair to better conform to white society.
Gender is making everyone miserable, and it’s odd to me that transactivists would want to legitimize it rather than do away with it and just let people be themselves for a change.

Here’s one to file under gender bullshit – men don’t like going green because it makes them feel feminine!
https://www.salon.com/2018/01/01/men-resist-green-behavior-as-un-manly_partner/
Gotta love how they frame misogynist stereotypes as a threat to men, because men’s feelings matter more than sexism against women. And that, if only advertisers appealed to male egos, that men will suddenly stop destroying the world and “go green.”
This is one reason out of many that I cannot be an optimist and I have zero hope for the future. I’m living in a world where men think masculinity is more important than destroying the only known planet that can sustain life. Does that not say everything about our collective chances of survival?

I’m pretty sure that the overwhelming majority of men calling themselves trans these days have no particular inclinations to permanently alter their bodies, so “body dysphoria” is a fairly weak claim. Also, not liking your body doesn’t mean you have some claim on the opposite sex.
That’s Dave Squirrel, the woman who blogs Twansphobic Since Forevah, btw.
