Canadian Women’s Sex-Based Rights – Bookmark, Share, and Support

Thanks for this timely reminder.

My MP is Peter and this is the email I just sent to his office:

“It has been several months now with no further follow-up to the four important questions I asked of Peter about his position on sex-based versus gender-based government policy prior to the last election. These questions are important to answer because a very great travesty is continuing to occur under his watch and I think some accountability to someone who voted for him is in order. To make it a one point question, I would like to know what if anything he is doing about bringing my concerns forward regarding the elevation of gender-based policies over and above sex-based Charter rights.

This not a trivial matter when a convicted child killer, like Michael Williams who brutally raped and murdered Nina Courtepatte, can enjoy being a fully endowed male claiming female gender identity in order to be transferred to the Fraser Valley Institute women’s prison. This kind of gender-based policy currently in vogue with the Liberal government – one that that allowed him access to this prison once already only to be transferred out once he was caught having sexual relations with female inmates, surprise surprise – under the banner of the deplorable bill C-16 his government supported, is beyond the pale, and I don’t know how any Liberal Member of Parliament can feel they are acting in the public interest by doing nothing about this ongoing travesty that creates real harm to real victims in real life. Who can be more vulnerable in our society than women already incarcerated? This is not a progressive policy but a shameful abdication of respecting the Charter on behalf of real people, biological women, in prison.

Does Peter share my concern that Michael’s feelings about his gender identity should not trump the legal rights of every single woman currently incarcerated? If so, what does he plan to do about it to be able to honestly say he supports women’s sex-based Charter rights. If not, why not? His electorate needs to know.”
