I’ve never seen an episode of the West Wing, but I would have liked to been there for the episode that has this gem of clip contained within it. I’ve posted this before, but I like it so *poof* here it is again showing exactly why religion, without question, needs to be kept out of the affairs of state.
Wooo! *fist-pump*

I have never even seen an actual episode from the series, but it looks like I may have to find the series and give it a shot if it tackles other issues with such aplomb.

It was a very good show – and a ground breaker – in the first few seasons before they started to screw around with the casting. It has also added to the lexicon about film dialogue, called ‘West Wing-ing: when the script is clever, articulate, and the plot is dialogue-driven (like my old hockey team mate/cum lawyer has duplicated on his hit series House). The cast has to speak, act, and respond very quickly to the words… which is quite challenging for many actors who are used to action and reaction driving the plot.
This episode directly tackled the growing popularity and conservative political clout of Dr Laura Schlessinger, who holds a doctorate in physiology but hosted a nationally syndicated radio show about morals and ethics and strongly promoted evangelical positions on many social and political issue. In particular her opinion about homosexuality as a ‘biological error’ based on biblical writings, and her portrayal that equated gay adoptive parents as legalized pedophilia caused the eventual demise of her radio and television shows.
