That being said, here is a video from DiscoveringReligion that takes some of the more inane arguments put forth by our deluded christian friends vivisects them in great detail and sends the now ensaddened god squad packing.
This clip is about the acceptance of same sex couples making out in public spaces. Why is it okay for hetero couples to mash face, but not when of the same sex. Gauge your reactions and how you feel about the situations presented. Examine your feelings and ask where do they come from, and are they based on rationality or just what someone told you was OK and what was NOT OK. Question those assumptions as authority has a nasty habit of being wrong.
The clip ends with a similar situation only this time the same sex couple is female. Do you think the reaction will be the same? If I can find the clip we’ll watch and see, but I can already guess the result. It is much more OK for two women to be making out because women as members of the sex class, happen to be doing sexy things appeals to patriarchal norms in society and thus is far more acceptable then two men (clearly violating patriarchal norms) engaged in the same activity.
So, when you hear people talking about sexism and patriarchy and feminism do not rationalize it away as “some topic that does not apply to you” or “those battles were won years ago.” The struggle for a genuinely decent society is still ongoing and could always use more people who are aware of the problems and their privilege and most importantly how they can make a positive difference.
This topic came up at supper, as the best and grossest conversations mostly do. How do you clean your posterior after finishing your business? As a stand and wiper, I assumed that my way was natural. I was surprised to learn that there are several different techniques popular in the dance of the TP. Then I though, what a perfect inaugural poll to have here at DWR. So, don’t be flushed with embarrassment and vote, the world needs to know. :)
I love the Bible. I love christians who don’t actually take the time to read this heinous turd of bronze-age mendacity. I extra-love christians who claim that there can be no morality without god. Basing your morality on the dubious actions and pronouncements of a god-head who is self contradictory and malicious seems to be a very bad idea. Discern4, a youtube author takes a look at one of the most problematic issues of the bible; slavery.
You see, my christian friends, apologists, and the religiously deluded in general if god were actually there and writing down good moral code for his “children” to follow one would expect His wisdom to contain something like this:
“Slavery is an abomination”
The problem is that you don’t actually see anything like this going on in either the old or new testaments. So saying that the bible is a good place to start for objective morality,as long as you over look slavery seems a little far fetched (rape and genocide are also notably absent, you would think our omniscient creator would have a little foresight and mention these little transgressions). My arguments aside, watch as our holy creator waffles about slavery being both bad and good…and then bad…and then….
Oh, and Happy New Year – May your thinking be less delusion and religiously addled in this fine new year. :)
*update* – Watch christian goodwill in action. I couldn’t resist…apologies for the 3 video post.
