Wow, this is still a thing. Drunk women do not deserve to get raped. Ever.
From i-once-had-a-guy-tell-me:
I am NOT saying that all cases could have been avoided but certain ones yes. My thing is that girls that go to parties and get drunk don’t blame themselves a tiny bit. That’s what I was specifying. If you go to a party without people you trust then you really are to blame.
And if I walk outside alone with a wallet in my pocket, and I get mugged, I’m to blame. And if I work nights at a convenience store and it gets robbed, I’m to blame. And if I drive a car on the highway and someone else is on their cell phone and they hit my car, I’m to blame. And if I trust that the chicken sandwich I bought at a fast food chain is safe to eat and I get food poisoning, I’m to blame. And if I go outside of my home and am attacked by an angry, escaped dog off its leash, I am to blame. Sound about right?
The penalty for getting drunk should be a hangover.
Not rape.
The first law of misogyny is that women are responsible for what men do to them.

Mind you, guys who kill folks with cars while drunk whine about how it wasn’t really “them” and if “only I’d been sober”….so they think it applies the same to women. The difference is, of course, the drunk driving the car is not in FRONT of said car; the rapist raping the drunk girl IS the car…not the victim.

See also the excuse used when it was time to murder your wife back in the bad old days(and still today if you follow the sentencing) and get a really light sentence because “it wasn’t really them”. And these whiney fucks are going on about the lack of judicial equality in the fucking court system when it comes to divorce and custody.
Gaah!
Obviously though, patriarchy doesn’t exist.

There was a dreadful story in the UK press a few weeks ago about a girl who had been gang raped by three men. She was so traumatised she emigrated from Britain. Two of the men are in jail for a long time and a third is on the run. So basically the attack was as bad as it gets without murder at the end. And even so, she felt she had to explain that although she’d been to the pub, she wasn’t drunk. As though that was relevant. It was appalling that the point even came up.

I often have to try to explain what rape culture is to people who have predetermined that it doesn’t exist and that I am some sort of man hating feminist harpy with an overlarge axe to grind. It takes so little time and reason to understand if one just takes a step back from the intellectual/social ramparts built up over time and *observe* what goes on in our society.
That’s it, you don’t have to understand it, just *look* and see how what happens to women and men and how their socialization plays into the shitty patriarchal system we’ve all been raised in. The very system that makes rape victims think they need to justify their actions because somehow drinking alcohol is same as asking to be raped.
