You might have to adjust the descriptions for places like Texas or Arizona: 0C should be ‘really cold outside’, 0F should be ‘Stay in bed, nothing will be open anywhere’ and 100F should be ‘Good day to mow the lawn’

This is really along the same lines as the F scale (F stands for Fujita) for tornadoes:
F0: light damage
F1: moderate damage
F2: significant damage
F3: severe damage
F4: devastating damage
F5: incredible damage
If a 64-116 Km/hr wind (F0) blows through an open window and flicks the curtain that then snags on an poorly balanced wall unit and tears (F1), then as the wall unit topples over and smashes the coffee table (F2) sending a large wooden chunk through the hanging Rembrandt and a large book flying into the aquarium knocking it to the ground, smashing it open releasing a torrent of water across the floor, killing the fish and flooding the room (F3), pouring through a crack and flooding the basement wall where the electrical panel sparks and shorts out, first wetting and then electrocuting the sleeping dog and setting the blankets next to the gas furnace smoldering, which asphyxiates the people sleeping in the adjoining basement bedroom (F4), then we won’t be surprised that the embers produced just enough heat to warp the the gas line, cracking a seal in one of the lines and fills the room with gas. The resulting explosion levels the neighbourhood (F5).
What a handy scale. So what which F ranking was that gust of wind?
