The awful thing about high heels is that very often, they’re not even a choice. It’s just expected of women in many positions and situations. That makes it such a difficult thing to deal with. It’s patriarchy that basically forces us to wear them.

I can’t fathom that. I get antsy when forced to wear non birkenstock shoes….

It must be wonderful to just be able to wear what’s comfortable all the time. I do wear sneakers in the lab and have some other nice shoes for different situations, but so often, it indeed has to be heels, frequently stilettos. The one advantage is that they make you taller, but that’s about it. And I still feel ashamed of how much some of them cost

Some hope and anti-patriarchal sanity in Canada. A couple provinces over but a precedent.

That’s some positive news at least! Of course, laws don’t achieve everything we have to, the culture really has to change in many areas.

This is Canada. There should be NO corporation that demands high heels. Some provinces prohibit the high heel requirement (though trans activists have fought against the prohibition of requirement).
Any company still demanding heels should be sued, and they would absolutely lose.
