How does one win an argument with another that doesn’t accept the basic tenets of reality. Recently over at Violet Wisp’s blog the religious element was once again taking the moral low road on abortion and left with trying to explain how their religion was explicitly “pro-life” when in fact their magic book is, in fact, pro-abortion. You can go over and read the thread yourself here, but I’ve screen captured the parts that I want to talk about.
Observe what is going on here. JZ is attempting to establish a coherence in what christian dogma demands and what its believers actually say. This of course won’t be pretty.
The hell? Just answer the damn the question. I mean this should be a slam dunk for a true believer – the bible is god’s word – this should be elementary stuff.
Oh, I see. Rather than admit your book is wrong, you obfuscate. Why all the smoke and mirrors? Here is my theory:once you admit one tenet of your religion is invalid the rest of the contradictory bullshit that you conveniently look past, will hit you squarely in the brainpan. Religious world view destroyed – welcome to atheism.
But it looks like CS has chosen Plan B: Evasively confabulate until you have to flounce from the thread because no one is accepting the rhetorical squirrel-farts that serve as the basis for your defence of your contradictory and indefensible arguments.

A small slice of what the emancipation of women looks like can be found here. There is a distinct lack of ’empowerment’ and empty consumerist gestures in the second wave – just women liberating the space for women to make the tough calls in their lives as they see fit. It is not happy-fun-times, not empowerful, but rather it is the cold embrace of the bitter-sweet choices in life that, till recently, only half of the population was deemed worthy enough to experience.
Religion treats people like shit, the further away you are from the white male ideal, the shittier your deal will be. The recent anti-choice propaganda wave in the US caused enough whinging in wordpress blogosphere that I felt compelled to wrestle with the full-blown stupid that is the anti-choice position. .

Why would anyone want to collect fetal tissue, you may be asking… (By the way, this is not something only Planned Parenthood does as you’ll see below. It is perfectly normal and legal, not to mention beneficial to the field of medicine and science. Planned Parenthood has been attacked with false videos, so let’s first start with what fetal tissue (not a baby, mind you) is used for. I’ll quote from the site I’ve linked after the video:

Conservative media has attempted to portray the notion of women as autonomous human beings as “radical”.
The recently decimated Liberal Party is stirring back to life with the election of a new Leader. Justin Trudeau has decreed that his MP’s will vote pro-choice, no exceptions.
The woolly anti-choicers that still remain within the party, or loosely affiliated, have recently penned an open letter to Mr.Trudeau about his policy.
“How can such a discriminatory policy serve the democratic ideals of our great nation?” wrote the ex-MPs, many of whom are known for being outspoken on socially conservative issues.
Actually it’s quite easy – your moral conscience is wrong – and since abortion is a settled issue in Canada the Liberal Party of Canada won’t support any fooling around the rights of women and their autonomy.
