I’m not really into the whole prostitution is what happens between consenting adults argument. I find that it reeks with the notion that the experiences of a lucky few, a sub set of a sub set, somehow overlays what happens to most people who get involved in prostitution; that would be degradation, pain, and suffering. Layer that with helplessness, fear and shame and you have a tried and true recipe for broken human beings.
Prostitution is not okay. It is never okay and thus the topic is set for your Thursday DWR PSA.
Thank you to Buy Fair: Fight Slavery for hosting the video.
I’m not much for advertising, but given that it is a good cause I’ll add my small voice to the ever growing atheist chorus and help promote this event. Good heavens, I might even go to this event as its in my country and only one province away.
Anyhow, if you need a little anti-religious pep talk to steel yourself for the next year, this vid will help.
Not ever.
“The way women dress and conduct themselves is constantly under scrutiny – particularly in the context of sexual assault. The notion that particular styles or clothes choices can be factors that contribute to sexual assault are ludicrous and damaging to women – as well as being insulting to men.
It is not short skirts or high heels that cause rape – it is rapists. Choices in dress are expressions of no more than personal style – they are NEVER incitements to sexual violence. In addressing women’s personal safety we need to think less about changing rooms and more about changing attitudes.”
