Hey, I’m playing that for one of my band’s concerts on Sunday!
For those who might be curious, this is actually the Lord’s Prayer. It was written for the video game Civilization IV and won an academy award! Beautiful song. Video game music is (finally) on the rise and beginning to receive some well-deserved recognition.
My only quibbles in this presentation are over the lack of strong solo work (or less accompaniment) for better dynamic balance (could be the mike placement) and the chosen tempo, which is a bit slow. When done slightly under tempo, it makes breathing in the natural four bar phrasing too difficult at this volume and takes away from the downbeat emphasis for each bar. The four bar phrase requires this emphasis to stand out on each first beat of each bar to mirror the strong/weak/less strong/weak of the individual bar. When done well, this helps create a very special musical experience for everyone. That’s why it’s such a great piece!
