Hey folks, just contemplating on the gradual change in the weather here. Summer has had her last gasp and now the parade of crisp mornings and cool afternoons has begun. Autumn is my favourite season, especially once we’ve had a killing frost or two, as it cleans the damn mosquitoes right up.
Now begins the ritual of trying to ascertain whether it too cold for to go out in shorts or not each morning. My reasoning is thus – we here in Alberta have the potential for a very long winter season from October to March most years and that, dear friends, is entirely to long a spell to exclusively wearing pants.
I do have limits, usually -5 centigrade is the lowest I’ll go before I shelf the shorts and bring up the long pants for the
winter. The other wardrobe factor, of course is the hated closed toe shoes (we won’t mention the socks either :P). We hates them and will put off the transition for as long as safely possible. The Birkenstocks stay on till there is more than a centimetre of snow that stays on the ground (stuff that falls and melts doesn’t count:) ), till then, the sweet freedom of sandals reign supreme.
Other concerns include getting the back to school work schedule down, making time for piano and voice practice and getting the yard and car ready for the long dark cold ahead. This year though, I think we’re going to add lights to our backyard fence that will really brighten the winter nights. :) It should be all good, and as an added benefit more light to see the frozen dog poo that needs collecting. :)

Our weather changes after National Day (Sept 10) and true to form, we had the first rain for ? months. Otherwise the temps drop from 28/29 to 23/24, which isn’t a big change but ’tis a drop. Still shorts weather :) I have a friend whose husband wears shorts virtually all year round in the UK.
Socks and no birks would be a pain. No one could admire your painted toenails. 💅🏼 (no toenail emoji)

Offer up a fattened calf to Veles for the fact that you have seasons, my learned friend. We down here have skipped Spring and found ourselves smack bang in the middle of farking Summer, again. It sucks.

The horrors of equatorial living – 28 all the way down to 23 – steel yourself. :)
That would be completely green-lit on this side of the pond except for that whole frostbite thing. :)
It is a disparaging experience, let me assure you – although the birk clogs keep hope alive during the darkest hours.
Winter is the perfect time, as heteronormative constraints apply to some of us. I didn’t manage to paint the wee piggies this summer, oh well. :/

I have to admit, Autumn and Spring are my favourate seasons.
I would a have to agree, missing spring would be quite disconcerting. :/

Hi Arb,
I absolutely love that top pic – so gorgeous with those Fall colours! My favourite season b/c of the cool nights, warm days, and changing leaves.
Re: Your Birkenstock comment. I get the, “You’re still wearing those?” (complete with horror-stricken faces) well into winter. And yes, I wear them with socks, as do most of the teenagers at school (grey work socks, if you can imagine) :)
I love the bottom picture for another reason – it reminds me of Christmas (my top favourite time of year!) We make wreaths, swags, and used to grow Christmas trees – balsam fir has to be one of the loveliest smells. . . love winter, too! (I figure, being a Maritimer, you have to not only love it, but EMBRACE it!)

Hi Carmen :)
I just can’t do it. Socks and sandals? Nope nope nope. :) You are much braver than I.

Well, Arb – I don’t wear the grey work socks, but I do wear heavy socks. :) Mind you, I am still open-toed well into Fall – that’s what gets me the, “Aren’t you FREEZING?”-type comments. I tell people I have lots of insulation. . . :)

Yep, I’m with you there. :) But once the snow starts, it’s pretty much game over. :>

I remember being a teenager in Massachusetts and going out barefoot in the snow as it melted in March. As I near 60, my pleasures are less bold.

It’s still hitting 32 here from time to time, and it won’t freeze until sometime in November, so I have the joy of mosquitoes to look forward to until then. Spring is in February. Summer covers about half the year here in SE New Mexico. Can’t complain about all the rain though, after virtually none the first half of the year. When the trees rejoice, I do too.

Well, it sounds like you still have a shot experiencing each of the 4 seasons. :) Kinda jealous of your birk-friendly climate.
JZ and RoughSeas, equatorial-ish dwellers miss out on the two best seasons, in my opinion.
