As I am sure I have said, Christianity thrived because it was adopted by the Roman Empire. Had it not endorsed slavery, it never would have been so adopted and would now be no more than obscure sect of Judaism. It thrived because of these aspects, not despite them.

Religious has always been a valuable tool in the ruler’s toolbox. Keeping people docile, ignorant, and happy while living in squalor is one of the mighty achievements of the many flavours of god-bothering.
The Romans would have been silly not to endorse the Jebus, as you stated. :)

You may be right, it’s okay though, I self-identify as a religious scholar, sooooo… bases covered. :)

The thing is, this is in Exodus, way before the rise of the Roman empire. Of course, the people who wrote this also practiced slavery, but then again, religions generally don’t develop against the basic ideas of the people that believe in them.

I mean, technically Exodus predates Christianity too. It’s the second book of the Torah.
