Did you ever need to see what ignorance and a banal level of patriotism looks like? Here ya be. The Rally for Freedom in my hometown. It is so very disheartening to see this level of absolute farce on display.
These individuals are demonstrating their absolute lack of social responsibility and disregard for others. Sadly, others will pay for their ignorance while they enter the healthcare system en masse pushing scheduled and necessary life saving surgeries down the queue because getting vaccinated and following public health measures is just too much of an infringement on their rights.
This is a near perfect clip of the level of malicious ignorance being celebrated. It illustrates not giving a fuck about others (even your own child) while basking in a glorious herd stupidity moment of social irresponsibility. Seems like the perfect video for the anti-vax/anti-responsibility freedum crowd.
Covid has brought the out the very worst of the selfish libertarian impulse in people. It confirms that selfishness wrapped in hyper-patriotic tat wins against the serious responsible fact based response medical science has painstakingly laid out for us.

If the situation were not so fucking dire, the irony on display here would be laughably delicious. This willful malicious ignorance will come to no good end.
I’m revolted to the core.

Me too Arb, me too. I know two of the people involved in the Ottawa protest – one lives here in our village and another lives 10 k’s away. Both in early 40’s, both completely unaware of how a democracy works; preferring to act out a child’s temper tantrum in response to the decisions made at both levels of gov’t. Both had People’s Party signs on their lawns at election time and both have refused to wear masks the last two years. I also had both of them as students. Need I say more? Head-shakingly maddening. I think one of the reasons this crowd loves watching videos is because their reading/comprehension levels are so low. A sad commentary on many of today’s young people. They are part of what I refer to as the screaming, attention-provoking minority.

Can’t blame you. We are really being given a full-on display of just how awful some people can actually be.

Irony:
The folks at this rally (unlike most of the readers on Prog-Blogs) would be very supportive of your views on all things trans.

Oh probably, but no group is monolithic, there are people on the left not completely enamored with gender ideology.
The good thing is that agreement on all issues isn’t a requirement.

I have family in downtown Ottawa. The kids have been trying to sleep with noise cancelling headphones on. Disgusting display of idiocy

False populist shenanigans based on the denial of medical science are not something to celebrate.
Do you also support the blockade at the border directly affecting the 90% of vaccinated ‘working class’ truckers whose livelyhoods are being put in jeopardy because of enough ignorant people got together and engaged in stupid uncivil action?

Children are not allowed to attend public schools without the proper course of vaccinations. This public health mandate is enforced and for the most part uncontroversial.
The COVID 19 vaccinations have been shown to significantly reduce the change of caching COVID and even if a breakthrough infection occurs (*which is way more likely with Omicron*) the severity of the illness and the likelihood of hospitalization is significantly mitigated.
So, to behave like a responsible member of society, does it not behoove the individual to take the reasonable measures in place to mitigate the risk not only to themselves, but the rest of society? In this case specifically reducing the probability of taking up acute care resources and increasing the wait times of people who need serious surgical procedures.
So if any class wants to ‘revolt’ against reasonable public health measures and mandates they would be clearly in the wrong from a public responsibility standpoint – unless its a protected ‘right’ to take away another’s access to medical care when they need it because getting vaccinated violates your personal freedom…
Thus, the ‘shitting on’ by me on a group of people who have deemed their personal choices are more important that the health and safety of the rest of society is well deserved.
