Edmonton has been doing a fine job of selecting some beautiful architecture to grace the river valley.

Did you ever need to see what ignorance and a banal level of patriotism looks like? Here ya be. The Rally for Freedom in my hometown. It is so very disheartening to see this level of absolute farce on display.

These individuals are demonstrating their absolute lack of social responsibility and disregard for others. Sadly, others will pay for their ignorance while they enter the healthcare system en masse pushing scheduled and necessary life saving surgeries down the queue because getting vaccinated and following public health measures is just too much of an infringement on their rights.

This is a near perfect clip of the level of malicious ignorance being celebrated. It illustrates not giving a fuck about others (even your own child) while basking in a glorious herd stupidity moment of social irresponsibility. Seems like the perfect video for the anti-vax/anti-responsibility freedum crowd.

Covid has brought the out the very worst of the selfish libertarian impulse in people. It confirms that selfishness wrapped in hyper-patriotic tat wins against the serious responsible fact based response medical science has painstakingly laid out for us.

If the situation were not so fucking dire, the irony on display here would be laughably delicious. This willful malicious ignorance will come to no good end.

I’m revolted to the core.

Men, regardless of their gender magical feelings, do not belong in female prison facilities. Prioritize female safety over male gender feelings.

Sometimes it is nice just to push the current events to the side and refocus for awhile on a different picture.

Happy Solstice everyone. Some pics of my hometown.

No public celebrations or fireworks in Edmonton this year. But that’s okay, eh… :)

Getting elected is one thing, being effective in government is quite another. Thanks for the info ipolitics:

“Trouble is, while Kenney’s frothy campaign bluster successfully fanned Alberta’s collective outrage, very little of it bore any resemblance to reality. Notley, far from being “complacent on pipelines” as Kenney accused a few weeks ago, has tried harder than most of her conservative brethren, Saint Ralph Klein included, to get one into the ground.

Proof positive of her bona fides: she defied the anti-oil types within both the national NDP and British Columbia’s NDP government next door. She earned the ire of her former ally and oil patch critic Kevin Taft. Greenpeace even labelled Notley “pro-pipeline” — something she probably should have put on a campaign sign, come to think of it.

The reason why an oil pipeline has been so elusive has nothing to do with partisan politics but an enduring political reality: it is manifestly more difficult to get pipelines into the ground today than when Ralph Klein roamed the earth.”

[…]

“Another conceit peddled by Jason Kenney over the last two years: that the dampening demand for Alberta-born bitumen, and the resulting deep discount at which it is sold, is strictly an infrastructure problem. This has allowed him to fashion a very passable boogeyman out of various anti-pipeline organizations, which served him well throughout the election campaign.

There more than a kernel of truth to Kenney’s assertions. Alberta’s oil sands production increased by nearly 50 per cent since 2014; its ability to transport all this bounty by rail and pipeline has remained virtually unchanged.

Yet there is an inconvenient a truth behind Alberta’s deeply discounted oil: exploding U.S. oil production. Virtually all of Canada’s crude — 99 per cent — goes to the U.S. Yet America has become increasingly adept at slaking its own demand. A fracking boom has prompted an increase of nearly 90 per cent in the U.S. between 2007 and 2018.

U.S.-fracked oil is cheaper to produce and requires less refining than the stuff north of the border. By virtue of spouting from American soil, it is by nature a Trump-approved nationalist bulwark against all things foreign-owned. It’s another fact of life, one utterly divorced from Kenney’s scorched earth politics: the U.S., Alberta’s biggest client, has increasingly become a competitor.

A few days ago, Kenney blamed all of Alberta’s woes on the allegedly socialist overindulgences of Rachel Notley. But reality, pain that it is, will quickly reveal the obvious: Kenney, having demonized Notley for the last two years, has only inherited her problems.”

“EDMONTON—Police are investigating after members of a local Islamophobic group entered the Al Rashid Mosque in north Edmonton on Friday.

Noor Al-Henedy, a spokesperson for the mosque, said members of the Wolves of Odin group asked pointed questions in a clear attempt to “provoke” worshippers.”

Is there anything more frustrating that having a passel of white dudes – just asking questions – that they don’t want to hear the answer to?  Important male opinion is at stake and these brave douches warriors are taking the front lines and JAQing off at a local mosque.

“She said two men entered the mosque on Friday, the day Muslims gather to worship in public. The men were wearing toques that said “Kafir” in Arabic, which translates to infidel or non-believer. Other members of the group are pictured in a Facebook video standing directly outside the mosque and asking members questions about Islam.

Al-Henedy said it looked like the two men who entered the mosque were “surveilling” the building.”

I know we here in Alberta have the reputation as being ‘Texas North’ but for once,  just once can we not live up to the reputation of being false populist loving, narrow minded, gerbil brained xenophobes (pretty please)?

“In messages over Facebook, Hunt said he was the man wearing the infidel toque inside the mosque, and said he also has the word tattooed on his neck. He denied being Islamophobic, and said he is against all religions. He said his activities are not affiliated with any specific group, though his page features a number of images related to the groups Canadian Infidels and Wolves of Odin, and he said he used to be a member of Soldiers of Odin.

He said he went inside the mosque to use the bathroom, and the reason he went to the property Friday was “to catch real Muslims walking in to possibly answer questions.”

This is not the spirit of debate in a free society.  This is a calculated malevolent action testing the waters to see if further bullshite will fly under the radar of society.   Will update the story as it continues to develop.
