Theramin Trees has put up another wonderfully well done video. I am once again in awe of his clarity and thoroughness. Truly, his is some of the highest quality content on youtube. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend watching his other videos after you’ve finished with this one.
Good Sunday Morning to my fair readership here at DWR. Yes, you heard me right, the loophole in my militant atheism has been exposed! If becoming religious came along with the Star Wars movie force like powers – I’d be in like Flynn.
Because honestly, who wouldn’t want to do this? 
It would be awesome. The prevention of cat-hi-jinks for afar would be completely worth having to listen to some grammatically challenged Muppet ramble on about how awesome the Force is.
Having force abilities as a religion sounds nice until one imagines someone who doesn’t like you having the same sort of powers available to them. Then the whole lightside/darkside dance begins, I suppose. It seems to me that the context in which the ‘Force’ as a religion is set in lacks much of the moral ambiguity that pervades much of the current human experience.
Our current crop of religious bally-hoo doesn’t do much better though. To justify being a dick in christianity there are just so many hoops to jump through – cherry picking and misinterpreting biblical verses to justify your dickishness, ostracizing heathens, spreading your credulous bullshit, all of this takes time and a goodly amount of effort. Also, depending on how big a dick you need to be (Witch-hunts, Inquisitions), one needs many people baffled on and doing the same bullshit you are to get the ball rolling.
Being a darksider or Sith just seems a heckuva lot more straightforward. Set sail on the good ship Narcissism and let the “Force” be the wind at your back. Zero organizing (don’t be in way of the good ship Narcissism), zero need for justification, zero need for a movement other than fomenting a “Fuck Ya!”X” sure is a Badass” cult of minions to be cannonfodder/housekeepers. Going Sith is no fuss, no muss.
The starwars canon has the current religious poop-bricks beat hands down when it comes to the afterlife though. Your reward for living the pious life? Living for eternity with the abominable prats that come and bother you early on Saturday and Sunday morning. My sanity would have the life expectancy of a potato chip wedged in a pro-wrestlers ass crack.
But with the force, you get to come back and all chrome-blue and shiny and give ambiguous advice to the unlucky sods you choose to haunt aaaaaand then wave away your tosser-like behaviour by dropping lines like, “Well what I said was true, from a certain point of view…“.
No contest really. :)

You’d think by now that we could see the absurdity that is religion…
It was nice.
I was on a lovely sabbatical, my time was restful and chock full of repose, languidity, and tranquility. I was defended from hearing about the woes of the Oppressed Christian Majority in the United States. My ire toward the loon-factory that is organized religion was at an all time low. It was going well until the farcical fail-o-tron of delusional christian nonsense headed by Kim Davis, remorselessly yanked my sensitive secular antenna and thus, sadly, my attention back to this specious example of ‘secular oppression’ being visited upon the goodly religious folk down in Kentucky.
What is going on here? Well, you can see the video for yourself here, but Ms.Davis has thoughtfully(?) summarized her position for us with this quote:

Kim, you are state employee. You must carry out your duties in accordance with the law, no matter what your particular sky-bhudda has to say on the issue. Government is a secular institution. For those of us who subscribe to reality this case was over before it even begun.

Get out your funny hats and squeaky shoes ladies and gentlemen as the candidates from ongoing republican clown-car-collective are not letting this grave affront to religious liberty rest. That would be reasonable. And we all know “reasonable” in repub-lingo means ‘siding with the terrorists’ – and NO SIR! – we will not let the terrorists win.
” But two possible future presidents, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and Senator Ted Cruz, disagree. They have declared #ImWithKim in what they deem a battle for religious liberty.
Huckabee wrote an open letter on his campaign site calling for Davis’s release that his supporters and others can co-sign.
The letter, which is addressed to U.S. President Barack Obama, Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Judge Bunning, calls for Davis’s immediate release.
“Exercising religious liberty should never be a crime in America. This is a direct attack on our God-given, constitutional rights,” the letter signed by Huckabee reads.”
Okay if the first sentence doesn’t make you want to make a mess of your undies, you are made of much sterner stuff than I. Brave Clown #1 and #2 are quite passionate in their defense of ‘religious liberty’, yet it would seem they understand very little about what the term is, and how it works in secular society. Let’s humour them as they are not done digging yet. Huckabee was clearly not satisfied with containing his insipid brain-flatulence to his own website so then our vainglorious Chucklebee took his important case to twitter:
“He said the judge’s decision to jail Davis “removes all doubts about the criminalization of Christianity” in the U.S. and called on others to “defend #ReligiousLiberty!”

Yep. Those rogue SCOTUS lawyers are undermining the Constitution and fundamental religious liberties at *every* turn. Who does the SCOTUS think they are?
I would comment further on the qualifications of this potential future President, but my irony meter just gave up the ghost. Chuckles closes with this:

In the CBC news article there is a whole section on the tepidly-parviscient, wet gym-sock, that is Ted Cruz, I suggest you read it if you enjoy having your brain bent and have not had your “no fuckn’ way’ quotient filled for day (week, year(?)).
So much stupid said with so many words. But all is undone with this simple statement gleaned from the comments on said CBC article.
“Religious freedom does not mean that you can ignore portions of your job, administer only the portions of the law that you like, deny services to the public based on your personal beliefs or infringe on the rights of another.”
That is all.

The universe is an amazing thing. While you are “sitting still” reading this post, you, me, and everyone else are hurdling through space at an unfathomable speed. This is almost as amazing as the fact that we, for the most part, don’t even notice that we’re doing it. The Earth rotates 1,600km/h at the equator, which goes down to 0 at the poles, for an average of 800km/h across the planet. Our orbit takes us around the sun at 107,000 km/h and our solar system’s orbit around the galaxy has us going about 792,000 km/h. On top of that our solar system kind of meanders about at 70,000km/h in our section of the Milky Way. On top of all of that, our galaxy’s movement in relation to the background cosmic radiation has us cruising at a cool 2.1 million km/h through the universe. All tolled, we are moving through space at about 3,000,000 km/h OR 853 km/s OR 0.3% the speed of light. That is damn fast.
What the hell does this have to do with ghosts?
